Best chip/re-map

Recommended Posts

It's a funny thing asking advice on tuning. Have done it before on other forums and there is never one clear cut company that everyone can recommend. Why do these tuning companies make enemys with some cutomers with poor workmanship but do a great job with others. Dont understand why they cant put as much time and care in to every job, we all pay for it at the end of the day.

Thanks for your advice so far guys!!

Superchips have a poor rep on this site.

GIAC also have a piss poor rep, there software tends to be for US cars and fuel and generally will screw your emissions.

APR are an off the shelf map, so probably no better than superchips.

I'd go for a custom map with Stealth everytime.

Totally agree with above. Stealth remapped my car. Its a FULL custom remap, as opposed to an off the shelf chip. Stealth's remap costs the same as the chip so you are also getting more for your money at Stealth. Remaps are far better than chips as they are tailored to your car (every car is slightly different). Stealth are one of the best tuning companies in the UK mate. Def worth a visit when it comes to ECU mapping. They have a rolling road too and will get a full power and torque readout before and after the remap...all included as part of the remap. Stealth's remap is £300.

Thanks guys, you have been more than helpful. I agree, a re-map is definately the way to go. There used to be a guy a few years back who was good on stock VW management called Geoff Everett, is he still around? Think he was the original founder of AMD. Otherwise Stealth it is. thanks again chaps!

Has anyone every had a chip combined with a MK4 VR6 head gasket. I've heard it can cause knock problems because the timing is too advanced. Something to do with the increase in compression. Would a custom remap solve this problem. I'm just trying to decide whether to put a MK4 head gasket in or not. I'd love to increase the compression for the extra horses but don't want to give myself problems with it. If a Stealth remap could work with the HG and keep the timing correct then i'd do it. Should be a nice mod to bump the numbers a little. Need some advice here.

Thanks

Baz

If you have an OBD1 2.9 then you will benefit from an enlarged butterfly on your throttle body combined with Stealth's remap. I don't know much about increasing the compression ratio on the mk3 vr to get more power. I do know it makes it slightly less reliable if you increase the compression ratio...hence higher powered turbo conversions normally involve lowering the compression ratio. Stealth will be able to better answer your question. Let us know what you find out.
