Vento VR6 - Is it possible to remap to get more power?

Recommended Posts

I've finally managed to get enough money together to get my vento vr6 engine rebuilt. The engine went at 160k due to head gasket problem, so the block getting a lite rebore, new pistons rings, new pistons and robs, and it getting a reskimmed cylinder head thats covered 78k.

Since this is costing me a small fortune (parts only - brothers sorting out the mechanics for f all!), im wondering whether its possible to remap the ecu to get some more power out of the engine?

Its a 1992 K reg OBD 1 engine - thats 174 bhp standard, just wondering what sort of gains i could expect and rough cost, if anyone has had this done?

Ideally i would like to strap a supercharger on the vr, but i dont have the funds, as my Polo G40 also costs me a fortune to run!

Im going to keep the engine as standard as possible, ie no induction kit! personally i dont like them and i dont want to lose the low end torque from the engine! Its got a catback exhaust system on it aswell.

Any ideas/suggestions?

i would suggest a panel filter mate and drill some holes in the front of the box if ya like

mines been re-mapped by smd, cant remember what cost tbh but power went from 188 bhp up to 197 bhp and a flatter torque curve so smiles all round! oh and she revs higher too lol

cheers, i definately want a remap, so i guess i should prob start saving now!

Just waiting for the cylinder head to get skimmed and the head gasket and bolt set, then build it all back up!

I think while half the engines out, ill get my brother to do the timing chain aswell!

Anyone recently tackled a timing chain?
