madspark01 0 Posted August 6, 2006 Report Share Posted August 6, 2006 just had a bit of work done on my sharan vr6 put my car in to a local specialist in fife various people reconed that the noise from the n/s of engine was tappets/lifters but on inspection when covers removed timing chain tensioners destroyed same was replaced but i said to go ahead and do the lifters anyway as engine stripped got car back but now heavy tappet noise from o/s of engine have been told possably caused by partialy blocked oil pick up oppinions and rcomendations welcome soon be looking for a schrick to give the stealth bomber more power Link to post Share on other sites

madspark01 0 Posted August 13, 2006 Author Report Share Posted August 13, 2006 just had 2 of my relations (cousins)who are both mechanics have a listen to it both said it sounds like a single tappet and said he has had a simaler problem with vauxhalls (he is a vauhall mechanic poor bloke) usualy caused by an airlock in the tappet is this posable with the vw enginealso if the oil pump is part of the pick up has any one got a link to info on samecheers frae the mad spark Link to post Share on other sites
markiev6 1 Posted August 14, 2006 Report Share Posted August 14, 2006 new tappets can take a few hundred miles to shut up had my vr rebuilt and the noise from the tappets was loud !! but i was told they could take a while for the oil to do its work and sure enough it did after about 200 miles Link to post Share on other sites
Ickyketseddie 89 Posted August 15, 2006 Report Share Posted August 15, 2006 On my old 8v when I had the head replaced with all new parts, including new tappets, I had 2 tappets that were really noisey and never quietened down.
