antera309 3
That's the VF-Engineering kit, based on the Vortech V-9 charger and made in the USA. It is the most widely-used VR6 supercharger kit out there, with hundreds of successful installations so far.A number of us bought the Stage 2, 280BHP version on a group buy earlier this year. The progress of peoples' installations is being covered in the following thread:http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?104063.130I have one of these kits sitting in front of me in a cardboard box right now. The build quality of all the bits looks great, but that's about all I can say until it's fitted to the car!!
Eat this 2
how much extra insurance does it cost and what does it do to mpg?
mk3anni 0
My MPG hasn't really dropped a huge amount, I probably loose about 20 miles per tank in day to day driving. My insurance went up by 10-15% at a guess.I fitted my kit myself in about 7 hours, its not a difficult job, and it is well worth it. You can't beat the smile 280bhp puts on your face!!!! antera309 3
Moving to a specialist Insurance broker like HIC or Greenlight will help keep the insurance costs down once you go supercharged.Fitting the kit is fairly straightforward, but you will need to budget an extra £350 for the required ECU remap. AMD or Stealth racing can do this for you.
Guest vwsyncro
Buy a Volvo instead, if you really want to be fast for a change.
VR6BOY 2
Hey best thing to do is get a spin in a stg2 charged vr and you will see the difference. I have done a lot of work to my vr6 like schrick inlet, 6 branch and a decat exhaust and it goes very well imho
Nerih 0
if you want a grin on your face - try the v1 vortech, its slightly bigger but has a HUGE super charger whine.with quite a rich top end, youll get different mpg when driving hard (much wilder than normal!), i found my average mpg down to 19mpg and 17mpg with the aircon on, although i'm usually always on the boost and rich map.i have 4 years no claims and paid £1890 fully comp with all mods declared with HIC, the mods include exhuast, £600 for the alloys, stereo/ice, lights and so on, suspension. im 24. Seademon 0
Blimey - mines about 18mpg without a charger! :0)
J5KE F 0
I gut a v9f which is good by any standard especially with the stage 5 pulley pushing out 13psi!only problem is bearings and the standard 1's didnt like the over spinning and have consequently needed replacing.Currently i'm upgrading my charger to a 16psi custom built monster from VF, and once sourcing replacement bearings will be selling the v9 for a reasonable price!Insurance, I pay £750ish fully comp, i'm 29 with 5yrs ncb with 8,000 miles restriciton and owners club discount.Prob get between 16 & 25 mpg on a run.
