crish72 0
I maybe have missed something simple but how the hell do you remove the nut?Decided to put my new mounts on today but fell at the first hurdle as i couldn't remove the nut. So,Allen key in top to stop the strut turning but where after that as you obviously have to loosen the nut with a spanner/socket (whilst holding the allen key) which won't fit into the recess(socket will but you then can't get the allen key in)Do i need a special spanner/socket or have i missed something? Thanks in advance.Chris
thegoth 5
Hi,I think the common solutions are either to use an impact wrench or to make a special tool out of a socket: file/grind flat sections to the top of the socket and then use a spanner or adjustable wrench to turn it.TG
Pervert 0
Zorro, having just attempted an install of new coilovers I know your pain. The best solution is an impact drill, which most garages have and will save hours of hassle. Failing which you need a 21 offset ring spanner and a 7mm allen key. The offset ring spanner has an almost 90 degree turn downwards, before turning another 90 degree back to the original position.....therefore allowing you to fit the spanner into the strut plate and over the nut, while maintaining pressure on the allen key with another hand. However, my first advise would be to spray some WD40 or similar rust / loosening agent as I managed to break the wall of the allen key head and was then forced to drill it out of the nut....fortunately, I was replacing the entire strut...so this didn't matter, except for the extra hours of work of course.Hope this helps bro....but trust me, impact drill is the way.PERV
crish72 0
Cheers Perv,I'm going to try with a Box Spanner first(with a handle welded on), hopefully this will do the trick and they're only £1.50 each.If that fails then i'll try your method.Fortunately the nut should not be too tight as i only had my shocks fitted recently.CheersChris
purple highline monster 0
just take it to a garage and get someone to air gun them loose, a few miles drive with it just nipped on wont damage anything, and it will save you loads of agro swearing and sore knuckles! badboyV6 4
As PHM said - Exactly what i would do. Unless you have air tools.
mk3anni 0
Or a cordless impact gun. I got one a few years ago, has proved invaluable.
