duncs 0
ok so having established that indeed my chains need doing, i enquired of my local stealer how much it'd cost for an annual lube service and replacing chains/tensioners/crankshaft oil seal at the same time.erm. this is the confused bit.they quoted me £350 ALL IN!!!! for the chainsand £115 all in for the service. hmm. think they've made a mistake? i queried and they said they had just been given new pricing lists!duncs
stuey 0
I think they forgot the 1 at the start of the price, £1350 sounds more like it from a stealers!

crish72 0
Likewise!!Let me know how you get on as i'm gonna have to get mine done in the near future and the stealers is the only place local i can get em done at :-(Chris
thegoth 5
Get it in writing!!To cover your back and to double/triple check the stealer muppet isn't talking about belts on a 4 pot or fitting snow chains ;-)And then 'bite their hands off'.TG
andy 0
I would never trust a dealer to do that job properly, too many horror stories for my liking... They can't even get a price right it would seem!

I'll have the dilemma soon of possibly having to use the dealer as there are no local garages i would trust! :-(Chris
ihpj 0
I wouldn't trust my car to any Indy for this sort of work. So i called my local Dealers. I got (Wayside MK) to quote at about 1500GBP, Kieth garages (Aylesbury) 700GBP, I think The Phirm said 1000GBP. I'm tempted to get my chains done sooner rather than later at 700GBP (all inc.) at Keiths. call around the various dealers and see what you get.
duncs 0
i'll get them to confirm it in writing then book it in to get it done. i'll let you know if they decide to 'revise' the price!duncs

I wouldn't know about Scarborough though! You could ask for a recommendation on here... Independant VW specialists are the way forward if you can't do a job yourself. I generally can't stomach the incompetence that I experience every time I go to the dealers for a part. "Corrado?...how do you spell that sir etc etc...!"

jezmoz 0
i would personally travel and stay at the place where a reputable mechanic is based at, kilokilla in stoke has a good reputation.
