FishWick 21
Hi folks,Just thought I'd give Vince a massive shout for the huge amount of effort he put into my car from Thursday to today in getting my Schimmel Manifold and G60 intercooler fitted, along with a 12psi pulley. The fitting went really well and his team did a fantastic job of the pipework etc, all looked pukka and ready to deliver some good horse. To cut a very long story shory, we ran into loads of problems and the Intercooler had to be scrapped as it was losing 4psi :-(It was getting late today (we were there until 7pm mapping it, having started at 8am) and were both extremely tired, so we cobbled it back together, charger pipe straight into the schimmel with a very safe map to get me by on, with only the water injection offering some form of det protection.Despite that, the final power run was quite interesting and we exceeded 120mph in 4th, so the dyno stopped measuring power at 317hp. Looking at shape of the trough at the top end, we estimate power to be currently around the mid 320s. Not bad considering there's no IC, the schimmel seems to do an admirable job of keeping temps down on it's own!It was apparent throughout the whole day's mapping that the engine is a good one and there's more to come, once we've gone back to the drawing board on the intercooling and come up with a better solution. Again, not bad for a 138K old engine with just the chains and head being done about 18 months ago.Just need to sort something out with the intercooling and we can try again and aim for a nice consistent 330ish. 57ORM 0
Nice one Kev,Impressive figures, don't think I'll be hitting them figures but it confirms the trip from Manchester to Stealth is well worth it.Want over 200 torque/BHP from BMC, Schrick, Cams, Manifold and zort
cadguy77 0
got some graphs for show mate?
FishWick 21
They're still on Vince's computer! Didn't think to get copies. I'll get him to email some screenshots over when he's not so busy.
IbiVR 0
Just as a ref - what did you have before the schimmel/pully? (bhp / psi)Cheers,Tom.
FishWick 21
285 with 8psi and standard manifold. The schimmel setup needs a fair bit more work as yet. It's the first map he's done with one on a 2.9 and it took a lot of work to get right as the airflow characteristics are very different to that of the standard manifold. IbiVR 0
Not bad gains then at all. Keep us posted!Tom.
FishWick 21
Will do. I've hit a stumbling block on intercooling. I can't think of a neat solution that keeps the boost path short and the losses low and as it's in a Corrado, I'm stuffed even more unless I start chopping the car up for front mount, which I'm loathe to do.Anyone know of a chargecooler that actually works?Cheers
IbiVR 0
mmm, what side inlet on the shimmel dod you go for - ie do you need both inlet and outlet on the same side of the cooler? Are you sure the cooler you have is ok - corrado g60 one isnt that big so its odd you see such a loss through it - maybe get it pressure tested?Other than that a 130pd side mount cooler might be worth looking at. similar sort of shap and size to the g60 one.Tom. vr6turbo 27
charge cooler and relocate the battery to the bootthats the way i plan to go
FishWick 21
Battery is already in the boot but I'm not sure on Chargecoolers though. Schimmel's looks good though. The G60 one I used was brand new and Vince pressure tested it, seems OK. Maybe it's just inefficient? I could get Forge to make a copy of it, but with improved flow? For the time being, I think I'm going to lag all the boost pipes with aluminiumised cloth, lag the front pipes and refit the G60 cooler - and just live with the pressure drop. At least then the power delivery should [hopefully] be more constistent as less boost with a denser charge and correct fuelling makes more power than more boost with hot charge and over rich fuelling.
