heater matrix

can anyone point me in the direction of a how to guide for changing the heater matrix in my golf VR6 please? Basically i want to know how far i ve got to go with taking out the dash? For now im just going to disconnect the 2 hoses by the bulk head and rejoin them via a piece of copper pipe (bypass the matrix) so i can still use the car until i get time to do the matrix.

Can be done without removing all of the dash! It's just tricky and time consuming! Start at the centre console and work your way up to the matrix housing.

you can run the car indefinately with the matrix bypassed as it only controls the (surprisingly ) the heater, just make sure the connection is good

the cars been fine with the matrix bypassed, but need to do it before the chill sets in cos the mrs will only moan otherwise! I ve ordered a matrix from vdubgirl, should be here this week. Then I ve got the joy of fitting it! But I have ordered a ramair pro ram, mega leads and new plugs too to make me feel better!

started doing the matrix after it arrived this morning, just having a break cos its getting to me now! got so far as getting to the matrix box i cant see how that s going to come out without removing the dash. I ve taken out the centre console all the way up to the stereo. Got the fan and the duct along from the passenger side to the matrix box out. Undone the 3 bolts and 2 nuts from the engine bay side of the bulk head and now come to a stand still. Anyone happen to be on thats done this without taking out the dash?
