wrexham-highline 0
Picked up my '96 Highline on Thursday (had mk2 16v before)and took it to my local performance specialist for a service and once over today......dissapointed.... the car is putting out 163bhp and only 140llb/ft torque! It starts first time and ticks over fine, but the power delivery is poor - feels like the car is pulling through treacle (goes nowhere if i put my foot down, but the revs "catch up"after a while)I spent alot of time and money modifying my mk2 but am relatively inexperienced with these - any advice on what is going on / posible solution would be much appreciated.thanks! matth76 1
Sounds like the timing is out...the cams are not in quite right or the chains are not in correctly - have the chains been done recently? Alternatively it could simply be the cam position sensor which if it goes you can lose up to 30bhp. Did the "performance specialist" not put it on vag-com? This is the vw audi scanner which will scan your car for any sensor faults - such as the cam position sensor. Of course it could be something else. Could be a clogged throttle body perhaps. Others on here may give other possible causes. However the best solution is to ring up Stealth Racing, or The Phirm. Both are the best in the country when it comes to the vr6 - with 100 times the knowledge of main dealers and half the price. Where abouts are you located? Let us know how you get on mate.CheersMatt
wrexham-highline 0
Cheers fella.no, the specialists didn't run a diagnostic - just a service and RR showning the aforementioned "limp" figures!I am plannin to book the car in at Stealth on my next day off .. cosmetically the car is mint and only set me back 1400 quid so can spend a little on the performance.. i spent 7k on my mk2 at TSR and C&R respectively over a two year period .. she was putting out 168bhp and 156 llb/ft torque... i want the VR to feel better than that eventually! Eat this 2
u spent 7k and got 168 bhp with 156 lb ft bloody hell matethrow that much at a vr engine and youl be over 400 bhp lol
wrexham-highline 0
hahaha lol!...the term "bang per buck" was not a term widely used when doing the valver! 8-) although 1500 quid was spent on suspension and cosmetics........ like the sound of 400bhp though (6)
mk3anni 0
Whats the mileage on the car??If its below 100k i doubt its the timing, as the chains shouldnt have needed to be done.Get it on Vag Com before you make any expensive decisions.
wrexham-highline 0
cheers mk3 anni, i was abit of a victim of the "..just replace everything and balls to the expense" syndrome with the MK2 so am taking thinks a little more slowly this time around.I've got her booked in at The Phirm next Tuesday (the 26th)for them to run some diagnostics and hopefully get her back to standard performance sharpish!...once she's fettled i have big plans for the old girl..
