Knock Sensor ? Pinking?

Started to notice a weird sound @ 3 - 4k best way of discribing it is, metal meracas not as noticable @ standstill more so when driving,

Should I stop driving it?

Hi mate. Could be pinking... I've been told its supposed to sound similar to nails dropping on the ground... although I had bad pinking one time and couldn't hear a thing above the engine noise. If you do have pinking then I wouldn't rev it too high.. should still be able to drive it but just take it easy until you get on the rolling road. Stealth should be able to diagnose and fix anything, unless you know of another vr specialist further north nearer you.

Just means I will drive a 96 escort which is just such a come down from a VR.

It could be anything.....if you get it on vagcom you can see what the knock sensors are recording, this will tell you if its pinking.

I would be surprised if its started doing it for no reason. Have you done anything to the car recently?

Apart from fitting an induction kit and cleaning the hall sensor and checking on the chain runners on Saturday nothing. That said I think my oil pump is playing up going to have to check the pressure.

Need to get my own VAG COM equipment.

Cant see why what you've done would cause pinking.

I guess if you have low oil pressure it could cause rattles and other nasty noises........I'd run it to sealth myself!!!
