VRTrickster 0
Ive just read an article on installing cams on the Puma Racing website, and it says that when you start the car you should not let it idle and keep the revs up. I'm just wondering If I may of caused my head damage due to not carrying out a bedding in procedure? Does it really affect things that much if you don't carry out the bedding in process? Reading this has concerned me a bit! http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/cam1.htm
andybg40 0
The manufacturers normally recommend that you hold the car a 2000rpm for 10-15mins. The reason for this is to complete the hardening process of the camshaft. Worst case scenario is that a lobe wears, however, you would be unlucky for that to happen. You would soon know as the car would not run a bit lumpy.
jaysVR6 2
Running in is for bottom end reasons and not top end. You'll be fine. I've replaced two heads, one in an RST and had my head rebuilt before I had my whole engine rebuilt, you don't need to run in a cylinder head.If the cams need bedding in you wont damage anything im sure of it. VRTrickster 0
I fitted new cams and lifters to a old head if that matters?
cadguy77 0
The manufacturer I brought my cams from strongly suggested to run in the cams by holding the revs at 2000rpm for 20mins.
VRTrickster 0
So I may of damaged the lobes if anything at all?
andybg40 0
Possibly. But you really would notice it. If you are worried about it an oil change will show if the lobe has worn, the metal will be in the sump. I very much doubt it though. How many miles have you done since the cam swap? andybg40 0
I guess the cam is ok then. You would have noticed a problem by now.
