Smon's right! It really is easy, I expected it to be an ARSE!

Make sure you have quality spline tools.. I purposely got the snap on man to bring some today for the job, cost a bit, but WELL worth it.. Yesterday, they totally MUNCHED my cheap set..

Clean out the heads as much as poss, tap the tool in and give it some elbow grease, I wrapped a pole around the rachet and this made it super easy! Also, as Si says, tap the tool in with a light hammer, this helps prevent rounding anything..

Dalj, defo LEARNT alot.. I really do feel confident enough to put the engine in myself now! Most if not all the parts I have and will collect together will all enable everything to simply bolt into place! Only thing I am a little worried about is wiring, but my boys at Eurotek can do that for me if needs me, maybe even my mechanic... I just need to read up on the technical side of the engine, the inside bits e.t.c, feel that i ask too many questons on it! lol

I do intend on hiding as much of the wiring as possible, will be an arse to start with as I'll have to arrange the wires into what goes where, so I can plan the best route to lay them..

I do WANT to smooth the engine bay, but I don't think i can go without my car for the days that it will take to do, having it all smoothed, plates welded in and then painting it... I'd rather get the engine put straight in... But my bodyshop thinks that they can do alot with the engine in... if not, I've got access to massivee thick sheets of metal, which are used to plate doors, i may get bits cut to shape and fit them into the engine to hide wiring and give a clean 'BLING' look!

It's all defo coming together now, even found a bottom end and a company who can bore it to near 3000cc capacity with pistons which I thought was cheap @ £750! Just guna have to work my arse off a bit more to get the money for that.. shud go nice with a VR2 charger! ;)

Hows yours coming along?

Well done mate, think your car (like mine) has been crying out for a beefy engine transplant!

Haven't done anything to mine yet - gonna start sourcing a full setup soon 2.8/2.9 so let me know if anything comes up. Hopefully wil start it about Sept/Oct time after this season shows - planning on hiding wiring and painting engine bay but not smoothing it too much. Will be reloacting battery and washer bottle tho for an uncluttered look!...... 8o)

I want to hide my battery and most of the bottles, but got no where to put them, can't go in boot due to my install and not putting them inside the car, so gonna have to stick with a factory look engine... install wise anyway.

Im eventually stripping the inside out and caging it so can think about relocating everythingthen i guess :D

Hello mate, your pm reminded me of this post...

Strip down was real easy, alot easier than I expected, so much so, Im doing the complete conversion into my Golf myself, so saved around £1k there!! May have to get someone to do the wiring, but know enough people to sort that out no probs! :D

HIFLOWHEADS.CO.UK is the site u want!!

really good chaps and friendly and helpful!!

I've not heard a bad word against them, so Im using them, or are they using me ;)
