Addsvr6 0
ok, car has been in garage for a week for a real annoying squeal coming from the belts and pulleys next to the charger (as you can guess i'm no mechanical wizard!!) charger unit taken off and new bearings pressed in (does that sound right??) anyway i was there when he put it all back together, fired it up and yes that sounds f@@@ing ace.....for about 2 mins and then said squeal returned, admittedly alot quieter but still. Out came 'fitter in a can', sprayed around belts and squeal stopped....again not for long. Took some of the tension of the main belt (not the small toothed one) and sounded like a cat was stuck in there. tried to tighten back up and the bolt thing used to tension snapped!! Even to me it sounds like the belts need changing but has anyone else with even a small amoutn of knowledge have any other suggestions?? As for spare belts tried that useless company, is it mc racing no telephone number just email which they dont respond to, tried NS racing so any other suggestions?? sorry for the long post! jaysVR6 2
How long has it been squeeking for? My serpentine belt (the big long one) was ever so slightly too slack and it was squealing every now and then, in particular under a heavy boot of the throttle. Again, if I sprayed WD40 on it, it would stop for a bit.I have just had a new Single belt put on my charger as I was running dual belts and I really didn't like the idea of them.It now runs sweet as fella, and because the majority of the wine comes from the ribbed charger belt it's now even louder!!! It sounds awesome! One thing to bare in mind is to not over tighten the serpentine belt as you will screw bearings. Your charger belt wont be squealing mate, it'll be the serpentine for sure.P.S you'll also be loosing boost because of the belt slip
Addsvr6 0
yep, hence my crappy time down the strip. Let me get this right , i have the small toothed belt at the top and this long belt that snakes around all the other bits is called the serpentine belt?? so what you are saying is get rid of the small one?? or have i got this totally wrong. whre did you get the belt from, is it specialist or anywhere?? cheers
jaysVR6 2
No mate, it seems like you have things set up correctly. The single toothed belt you have connects the idle pulley to the compressor wheel, I used to have as dual belts, they were not good to be honest, this is nothing to do with your belt slipping noise. The long belt (seprentine belt), wrapped around the side of your engine and connected to the other side of your charger pulley will be the one that is slipping. If you have been spraying it with copius amounts of WD40, you may have contaminated it so badly, it will just slip all the time no matter how much you tighten it.I'd remove yours and get a new one made the same size and refit it. You will need to find a belt company near you to get one made up.

I decided to put a single belt back on from them been great. You dont need to send it to them they know there stuff v belts are used for loads of things ,i measured mine while it was on the car, when i recieved the belt i put it on easy they will make you one dont be spending silly money for a s/c belt from who ever, they all get made at these kind of places and it,s uk.They do ceramic bearings aswell. jcorallo 0
Regarding the squeel - it could be anything - alternator, water pump, power steering and AC if you have it.However, its most likely to be the charger idler pulleys. If you have AC, there will be one of them, else two. Replace these first.Jules
