FishWick 21
Yes, the MSD conversion is most definitely a "Buyer Beware" modification!!OK, I've done nearly 4000 miles with the MSDs now (daily work transport plus leisure) and thought I'd offer a bit more feedback.I'm not really sure about this mod as a long term prospect. Over the weekend and on Monday I was getting some random misfires under load. So I've put the stock coil pack on and it's OK again, so I think one or more of the MSDs is on it's way out.I really don't understand why they blow. All they are is a long bit of wire crammed into a plastic case!! Maybe the "Made in China" logo underneath may be a clue, not sure.So anyway, like Tom, I can't fully endorse this mod as a long term prospect. They work great as soon as you stick them on and go for a blast, much harder attack.....but I dunno.... they seem to deterioate and now the stock pack with some new BKR7Es feels no different. Could it be a pyscological thing?Never mind. You try these things and move onto other stuff :-) They're good, but don't expect them to last is all I can advise.A reliable source tells me the Ford Zetex coils are very strong in terms of spark AND reliability and I know they work well with the DTA, so I'll be trying those next...... Roan 0
A bump for an update from anyone else who has tried this (or another coil setup). I'd love to do this mod...

xyber 1
I thought that yesterday as I seem to remember he was selling custom mounts back along and I need a new one
FishWick 21
Last time I spoke to him (back in September some time) he said he no longer has anything to do with VRTs and other stuff, so I'm not sure he'll be back on here.I am still looking into a reliable coilpack solution though. The MSDs didn't work out. They seem to fail quite quickly if run from a 3rd party amplifier.
VR6BOY 2
I have fitted my msd's not 100% happy tho and using standard icm it has developed a miss between 4 and 5k rpm
MarkGolf 6
Sorry to bring this up, I've only just come across it.. It seems that these MSD's are not reliable so the stock coilpack remains the weapon of choice..Has anyone got a reliable solution together as yet?
FishWick 21
I saw an uprated (6 cylinder) coilpack setup for skylines a while back for around £250, which looked good, but I never got round to trying it.... maybe someone else can :-)

VR6BOY 2
I have seen these on 034 motorsport http://www.034motorsport.com/product_info.php?cPath=26&products_id=278I sent 034 an email asking were they compatiable with factory management and this was the replyWe've had a lot of people successfully install our coil pack using the factory power stage from the stock coil. parkersdub 0
So is there a fixed price for this unit? My Pack is on its way out so its the right time for me to replace it and I like the look of what you are offering.Let me know asap please
Nex 17
ok l know this might seam like a silly question as it says 6 cyl, but this will work on a V6 4mo yes?it just my golf has developed a slight misfire at lower revs mainly between 1000 - 2000 and l think it might be the coil, so time to replace
creative 0
can i do this on my mk4 2,8 4motion with single coilpakk ??? mine is out and dealership is F**** expensive
gavinvr6 0
oooo that looks like it will do the job, and at a price to suit almost everyone, typical i just bought a new coil pack thinking mine was failing when it turns out my leads are arcing lol, so i got a used but working coil pack if anyone wants it. (im keeping the new one) is this o34 one higher output than a stock coilpack?

AJmk2 2
Anyone got the specifications on the stock amplifer, and standard dwell time ect so I can do some calculations. Also kev when you said you where running them at 2500ms , was this the dwell time you where using ?
FishWick 21
I think the stock amplifier uses variable dwell, but no higher than 3ms.Yep, that was 2500 microseconds, or 2.5ms, I used with the MSD coils. I emailed MSD technical and that's the dwell they recommended.
AJmk2 2
Any idea what the input current is to the coil? Thanks for the info.
