So this forces my plan to goahead a bit earlier than planed . i am thinking of changing the Engine for a manual OBD2 engine and box. which i have locked away .. Does anyone know what i need to be looking out for ? is the wireing the same or will i have to change the whole loom ??? also the Auto box has a loom going to it , can oi just cutt this off once i put in the manual ?? acf8181 0
well, i think the easiest thing would be to use the basic obd2 engine with your obd1 anciliaries, thus making the engine obd1. but, it'll be easieser to replace the head gasket on your current engine and keep that, if thats whats actually wrong.the gearbox may well be the hardest bit...not sure what has to be done. Bampson 0
So if i use the ECU from the OBD2 engine on the OBD1 loom will that work ?????
acf8181 0
noall the wiring is comptely different, as our most of the anciliaries on the engine.why not get a obd1 gearbox, and obd1 ecu and stick with your surrent engine.[ Edited Wed Jun 30 2004, 06:44PM ]

Al Joiner 0
Just out of interest, is there any code (on the vin plate etc) that will confirm whether it's OBD1 or 2?I have read that you can identify by sight (dizzy cap or coil pack?) but would like to know for sure as my highline is an 95/96 model. six appeal 53
All highlines are OBD2 mate
binliner 0
If it has a dizzy its OBD1 but it doesnt follow that if it has a coilpack its OBD2 but as Six appeal said if its a highline its OBD2
acf8181 0
only '92 cars (or very very early '93) have dizzy's...so 95% of vr6's are coilpack.'92-'95 = obd1'96-'98 = obd2
