dubbin 0
i want to remove my air con as i have no need for it, and it costs extra on fuel, takes power away from engine and adds weight from what i understand, all for a bit of cold air. is it easy to remove? anyone had it removed and a what cost? or do you think i should leave it in, and lastly will i depreciate the car value if i take it out?thanks alot guys
kalv 0
When I did something similar on my Subaru.. I just removed the compressor and the belts.. left everything else in place incase I changed my mind
Seademon 0
Does it only lose u power & use more fuel when you actually have it switched on? I think that would be a lot of hassle for nothing really
spanky 0
As Seademon says. it does run the compressor off the serpentine belt, but has very little (if any) resistence on it until the air con is turned on. IMO just leave it and never turn the a/c on, that's what I do!
dubbin 0
yeah its not that i dont want the option of switching it on or off, a just want rid off all the pipework and crap that comes with it? want a minimalistic bay. wotcha fink? am stil undesided, has anyone on here done it b4? matth76 1
Yeah it only takes power away (approx 5 bhp!) when turned on. However it does weight approx 20-25kgs so adds a fair bit of weight to the car.
Jk* 0
Ive never heard of people taking air con out?! :S
SiGainey 1
I did it on a celica gt4 - took half the dash out to get at the core behind the dash to remove the most weight... Would I do it to something like my Golf? Nar...
vr6madmike 0
If your going to be really picky about how much your car weighs as in strip every unused thing out then do it, if not dont bother its a good selling point you dont have to have it switched on and come the summer you might be glad of it! VR6Pete 1,455
if you've got climatronic, you can stick it on "econ" mode, which turns off the air con compressor.but, those units weigh a ton!! and would save alot of weight!pete
Chrisdut 0
weather its climatronic or not you can turn the air con off, it just switches off the electromagnetic clutch in the compressor, the pulley wheel still turns but nothing inside turns while its switched off, i wouldn't remove as you have to remove the dash to remove the heater box so u can fit a none air con system, that said if you do want to take it out can i have first dibs please
