Bullwinkle668 0
I have started playing with the air intake - removed the plastic cone and replaced the filter with a K&N flat panel. Here in Australia an exposed air filter is illegal (The Law therefore has issues with sport induction kits - though plenty of people run the risk still). Not sure on the legality of removing the carbon filter. What if I just remove the plastic elbow-bend pipe that feeds into the box?? Any thoughts on how this might affect airflow - more, less, or the same?I'm thinking the air will be sucked directly into the box unrestricted - no 90 degree bend to negotiate. So the same amount of air is received wth less effort required to get it.
ingham 5
the plastic elbow-bend pipe that feeds into the box is there to suck cool air from under wing and not the hot air from under bonnet but you from Australia may not make as much differance a bigger bore elbow may be the way to go
Eat this 2
how about a bmc arnt they covered??
andy 0
definately wouldn't remove that elbow if you're still running the standard airbox, having the cooler air from outside the engine compartment will be of far more benefit
madmonkee 0
modify the airbox with some silcone hoses and ram a cone filter inside of the box, then plumb a ram air pipe from the existing intake in the box down to the front of your car. Cone filter with ram air in a box was thinking about doing this myself.
Bullwinkle668 0
Was looking at the BMC CDA last night. Not sure where that stands legally. Guess it can be justified as a covered filter. Sure the Guide on installation - is it much different when a/c is present? Also considered a bigger bore elbow - probably the leading contender idea at the moment as cost is neglible. Anyone tried this?
binliner 0
Installing the filter is the same for cars with or without aircon... getting the cold air feed in is harder if you have aircon though
madmonkee 0
remove the carbon canister as talked about in another thread Nice big hole for the intake then
Bullwinkle668 0
Does anyone know what the carbon canister does???
mightyvr6 0
There's another thread on the forum about this: Basically it absorbs petrol fumes from the tank and engine. It is for emissions; to prevent fumes entering the atmosphere which may harm the environment.
