j7dub 0 Posted July 6, 2004 Report Share Posted July 6, 2004 want to raise the car a bit took it to mechanic and he said they are seized solid supposedly nothing new all the crap builds uopn them and and then bingo he lubed en and waited a day or so still no joy any ideas guys dubsport said they might be able to do it but its a case of taking all the coilovers off and the labour charge which could be ?????????????? madmonkee 0 Posted July 6, 2004 Report Share Posted July 6, 2004 try rubbing them with a nylon STIFF brush, or jet blast them... dunno im about to lower mine agian, hope mine arnt seized. Aluminium on a st/steel strut, shouldn't seize. Not being silly but has yours got the allen key locking thingy on the lowering/highering retaining locking nut thinger?? tandino 1 Posted July 20, 2004 Report Share Posted July 20, 2004 I had the very same problem years ago on my Mk1 Avo's (piece of crap they were x) ) - basically Ally lockrings and steel shock bodies are about the worst possibly chemical corrosion problem going!.I had to get a big old pipe wrench clamped round the lockring and with with plenty of PlusGas just keep on trying to move the lockrings...You've got to be quite brutal and in some ways your better off doing it with them on the car to get them initially free'd up as you have something to lever against - im not sure a bench vice would hold against the force i had to use to get mine free'd up.....If this fails (and i dont see how it can provided you really give it some welly - you've got nothing to lose) then its a case of cutting the locking in half and fitting new ones.Remember to cover you bodies in waxoil or similar once you have them set up properly - saves lots of grief!!Pete.
