kalv 0
To remove a supercharger from another VR6 and transplant into my one? I know a breaker who is selling a 1996 OBDII VR6 with a Z1 supercharger (7K) which has had new belts. He won't sell it seperately.. and wants to shift the whole car. He wants about £3000...?Is it worth it... swap it over ans break the car myself?

He wants about £3000...?Is it worth it... swap it over ans break the car myself? Buy the car, break it. Keep the bits you want and sell what you don't for a profit Quite a lot of the time cars can be worth more in bits than as a whole. Especially so with ebay.
kalv 0
That is what I plan to do.. but want to check that I can just "transplant" the supercharger straight into mine and then obviously get it re-mapped?

It will swap between the two no problem. If they are both the same OBD you could just swap the ECU over aswell and save yourself a remap altogether Edit: If one car has air con and the other car doesn't you may need to source a new bracket but thats about it. adam_christie 0
What about head gaskets? Don't SC'd VR's need metal ones? Or is that only for serious boost?
kalv 0
Well the ECU helps.. but the engine internals is something I ignored... looking at more rouble than it's worth unless I repair the nailed VR6?
craggsy 91
Wont need to upgrade internals unless you're planing serious power. Quite a few people run 280-300bhp without internal mods
poultonjoe 0
What about head gaskets? Don't SC'd VR's need metal ones? Or is that only for serious boost? No, as the metal head gasket raises compression slightly...
Eat this 2
its possibly be as well to swap the whole engine and ecu that way you wouldnt need it remapping im running 320 bhp + (when i fix the belt slip lol) with totally stock internals
VR6Rob 0
3k sounds expensive s/c's are around 2k new so you would need to break the rest of the car for more then 1k to be any better off.the mk4 metel gaskets raises compression but when running higher boost from a s/c some fit a thick copper gasket to lower compression
binliner 0
a ZR1 charger is a simple bolt on job but they arent worth £2k unless its had a toothed belt conversion its not even worth £1k
kalv 0
ok sweet.. I managed to get over and see the motor.. it looks nice.. leathers/porsche alloys - but the bloke won't budge from £3000... so guna give it a miss.. I'll just have to save up a bit more... binliner 0
If the car has a decent spec you should be able to make your money back no problem... porsche wheels and leather is about £1k worth straight away
