cadguy77 0
do you mean run both at the same time?
Seademon 0
Yeah it can be - I think its called compound charging or is that when you have 2 turbos and 1 spools the other one up? I dunno - Ive seen it done a few times but not on a VR6Might be something here about it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercharger#Sequential.2C_Twin_and_Compound_turbochargers
johnemerson38 1
yeah both at the same time i have a s/c and was just thinking can i turbo her aswell lol i no i am mad was thinking a little turbo to spool up quick and get the chrager running faster
guppers 0
have seen it done on a f*rd but it was used the other way round with the supercharger used to spool up the turbo.bit like the golf gt. it worked but the pipework under the bonnet was immense. how much power do you want?!! johnemerson38 1
um not sure its all just theroy work
Eat this 2
a turbo has no effect on how fast the supercharger spins as its entirely down to engine speed
johnemerson38 1
ok just thought if the little turbo spools up fast at low-mid revs and helps the engine turn faster than a n/a vr6 so wouldnt that help the superchrger reach higher psi quicker i seen a twin turbo and supercharged impreza
Eat this 2
yes it would mate then when the small turbop runs out of puff the supercharger takes over sounds like a plan
johnemerson38 1
well it was just a idear
lee060 3
charger for low ends , then switch to the turbo ( BIG one ) when you have spooled it up you'd need to find a way of cutting the charger out of the equation. its not possible to run both at the same time nor would it work to any benifit , say when the turbo eventualy spools up its gonna want to draw twice as much air than what the chargers drawing and it wont be able to drag it past the charger vica versa if its turbo then charger it cant force the air through the charger , and if the charger is still there its going to strangle it , basicaliy become a restriction . youd need to think of soemthign like a bypass valve . but its all entirely possible , and probly be costly . binliner 0
Ive seen it done on a 20v in a mk2
FishWick 21
Twin turbos are better imo.Less complicated, less parasitic load and less noise.Drive a 335i or 335d and you'll soon forget compound charging. Both have a MASSIVE torque band. The Rotrex is small enough and boosty enough to do it probably, the Vortechs; no way. They don't do anything until 3500 rpm, depending on pulley size. 6potmkII 0
yes go out in them at work, amazingly quick kev. 335 petrol feels faster than an m3 to me, no doubt sum1 will figure out a map for it an it will be!
IbiVR 0
Yes it is possible, though getting a smooth transition will be difficult. Its possible, Trendy Tramps mk2 20vt did it, and of course vw do it with the golf GT.wont be cheap though, but defo different.Tom.
