freemoyoyo 0
The head gaskets on its way out according to my local mechanic, aparantley theres a bit of oil in the water. I don't know wether i should just buy a full new engine or get the head gasket done ? Also there was no thermostat in the housing, To stop it boiling over maybe ? I've only had the car for 2 weeks and i'm gutted !
jaysVR6 2
Ummmm why would you buy a new engine when just the head gasket needs replacing??!! £600 head gasket or over a grand for a new engine plus fitting? Not much of a decision really!
freemoyoyo 0
Well i could prob get a 2.9 lump for the same money, the only thing is what if the same thing happens to the new one. I see your point, but at least you know the piston rings etc would be good on a re con unit ?

VR6Pete 1,455
First thing to do is get a 2nd opinion and proper compression test. You are best off getting your head gasket replaced in all honesty mate, as your mechanic may be able to identify any additional problems you may have...may also be an opertunity to change the timing chanins if they need doing.Pete
IbiVR 0
Do you have any other symptoms? Oil in the water could be your oil cooler. Its an oil/water heat exchanger and is prone to failure.Worth checking. No thermostat will make it take longer to get up to temp, but wont stop it getting hotter - it'd still overheat if it was going to.If it is the gasket then its worth doing, if you get another engine then you may well find yourself in the same postion again. And it will be ALOT more than £600 if your not fitting it yourself.Cheers,Tom.

Impossible otherwise.
