I've been told its quite diffficult and my local garage want to charge me £100 to do the job.i would rather do it myself - how long would it take and what tools do i need? VR6Pete 1,455 Posted July 12, 2004 Report Share Posted July 12, 2004 you'll need to relace your wheel bearings, as far as i know they are part of disc, and unless they pop out with no problems, you will need to replace them... i got mine replaced at the same time as me discs.. dubloke 4 Posted September 13, 2004 Report Share Posted September 13, 2004 you can get a proper winding tool from halfrauds! you can tap the bearings home with a big socket the same size as the outer race, just dont hit the inner race as it will dislodge and be damaged! apply plenty grease (lm) to the outers before re assembling on the hub! i would be more concerned with using second hand discs more than anything else tbh, especially as they are cheap enuff to buy new! never skimp on brakes! robvr6 0 Posted October 10, 2004 Report Share Posted October 10, 2004 just had mine done, took the garage 3 hours,after taking them an hour to start it, ended up having to cut all 4 calliper bolts 'cos they seized, then they managed to knacker 1 of the abs rings cos they said they had to sweat them off and back on again, which then cos me another 2 hours and £25 to sort out...and they didn't know it had abs before i took it in i'm now looking for a new reliable garage, Link to post Share on other sites
Guest vw mechanic Posted October 21, 2004 Report Share Posted October 21, 2004 raer pad carrier allen bolts can be a bitch to undo and the abs rings sometimes lose there shape so they wont grip the inner hub on the disc definetly worth changing bearings at the same time Link to post Share on other sites
