My Indicators on the drivers side of the car stay on 24/7

Ive tried a new relay but its still all 3 indicators on constantly.

It doesn't seem to affect the passenger side they even flash when the turn thing is selected.

I'm have had to disconnect the battery until i can get the buggers to go off.

I checked the wiring at the bulbs but it all seems peachie no rust and the connectors are ok.

I'm at a complete loss,

Just wondered if anyone could shed some light...

Regards,

Keith

If you pull back the carpet on the rhs of the boot - that's where the right hadn lamp cluster earths. I added a new earth there to help with the same problem on my 97 VR and it's better but not right so tomorrow I'm going to try another earth on the LHS cluster and see if that helps

I spent some more time looking and tried the earths in the boot but no joy, they look nice and clean. Removing it only turns off the bulb on the rear cluster the others stay on.

Even removing the fuses for warning lights, indicators etc doesn't seem to make any difference.

The only clue could be that the hazards don't flash even the passenger ones but just come on full time.

Arghhhh...

You've got a short in your electrical it sounds like, and those can be a pain to diagnose, it sounds like it's in the column selector lever switch thing. But I don't know what effect that would have on the relay, you may also be shorting before the relay. Easiest way to find out would be to hook a volt meter up to the terminals on the switch (disconnect one side first) and check for voltage or amperage going through the switch.

sounds like one of three things..

Earth fault on that aspect of the loom

Stalk switch either wiring or internals

Hazzard relay as on almost same loom so if there is an issue there it could cross over to the std operation.

Best way to find it is step by step. It may take some time !

Get a very long piece of wire and use a known good earth connection then use this as a temporary additional link on the areas you think there may be an issue. It should show the improvement when you find it. (Long cable so you can run around the car with ease). Then once found solve locally.

Dont forget you can always buy bits and take back those you don't need. some new relays etc etc

Or take it the local car electrician and let them solve it

Good luck I know these can be a pain!

Thank you all very much for all your helpful advise,

I spent yesterday armed with multimeter and a meter of wire and couldn't find anything wrong.

Last port of call was the alarm, I thought it was a standard model but it turned out to be a serpi star 420

removed all the wiring and lo and behold the indicators are functioning normally.

Shame the imobiliser circuits seem to include more than just the starter...Otherwise it would be history

Its like a mass of wires and the ideal would seem to be disconecting the drivers indicator feed.

Now to see if i can track down a wiring diagram...

Regards,

Keith

Hi, I would check the rear lights. I checked mine (after my car was blinking and breaking randomly) and the circuitboard (where the lamps fit) where ALL rusted. Got them changed approx 20quids. The connectionplug to the rear lights where also malfunctioning. Check that all leads are conecting properly.
