Earwig 89 Posted March 25, 2007 Report Share Posted March 25, 2007 If you already have a 1080P LCD screen and want a BluRay player to then they are not bad atall.....Even a BluRay player is now available for around £500 so Sony's idea of the PS3 being a cheap BluRay player is now looking less and less a good marketing ploy...Mark. Don't forget that the PS3 has a 1080P output rather than a 720PThose HD screens are quite a bit more expensive.1080P = 1920x1080 Progressive720P = 1280x720 ProgressiveYou can see the difference in resolutions ;-)Still no signs of any hacks or workarounds for the machines yet. :-(The games have already been ripped though and although Sony specified the machines NEED BluRay, the games are coming in at 4-6GB at the moment, with the rest mere filler code, serving no purpose what so ever ! So they lied on that pojnt....Also the U.K machines ARE different to other countires in that they do not have the miniture PS2 chip inside and as such they will NOT play every PS2 game. They will play some of them but not all.... Another kick in the teeth when we are paying mopre than any other country !Best place so far for the PS3 is to Import one from Singapore where the machin currently retails for an exhcange rate of £270 !Buying it for a cheap BluRay player is now not a good idea either as much better stand alone players that deliver crisper pictures are now available for less than £500 which is not much more than the PS3.The reasons to buy one are fading fast and it's on the way to being a big flop unless they drastically cut the price of it....Xbox360 is STILL outselling it ! VR6Pete 1,455 Posted March 29, 2007 Report Share Posted March 29, 2007 Cant be that much of a flop... they have shifted over half a million units since launch - A software update should fix the compatability issues with PS2 games..Dont forget Xbox has just launched the 360 Extreme (hdmi / 120GBHDD) which will hotten up the competition. looking forward to hooking a PS3 upto my PSP though swings and roundabouts really with consoles. so many fan boys on the internet to cause a stir!!!Think I might just get a gameboy.. lol Link to post Share on other sites
