Im getting a lsd fitted to my gearbox but might get a final drive fitted in at the same time. Im in two minds whether to get the final drive as i know i'll get better acceleration but then at the same time im gonna loose around 15 mph of my top speed.

Only way around would be to get a 6 speed but that's another story. Has anyone had a final drive fitted?

it's the gearbox that governs the speed.

once my engine is run im gonna get it re-mapped and might have the rev limiter increased by 750 rpm if i need to get my top speed back.

any used 6 speed boxes for sale?

i think the o.e. final drive is excessively long...think it'll do 167mph (and the car dont have enough power to push the car through the air upto that speed).

phatvr6 is the man to talk to, but he's rarely on any forums at the mo.

i've got a new naturally aspirated 3.0/3.1 engine. i'm gonna keep the car so i ended up doing everything to it, cams, big valve head, fully lightened and balanced bottom end, forged pistons, 6 branch, lightened flywheel, unorthodox pulleys, helix clutch, etc.

i had my car ready for inters with my new engine and 2 days before my sump hit something on the motorway causing it to run dry and cause damage. it had only done 700 miles and ended up having to re-build it again. grant motorsport has done all the work.

there are pic's of the engine on www.westsidevw.co.uk

You won't lose your top speed as this is governed by the power of the car' date=' rather than the gear ratios. The engine will just be working faster at any one particular speed.[/quote']

well, if you put a redicuolously short final drive you'll be hitting the rev limiter at about 100mph (extreme example)...so obviously gearing effects top speed.

Put a 3.6 diff in if sticking with 5 speed, or a 3.94 if going 6 speed. Standard FD is 3.3

VW sell the crown wheels for £100, or Vince has a selection of them in the workshop.

If you've got a VGI manny and 268 cams, you can take the rev limit out to 7000rpm and with the 3.6 diff you'll still pull 150 easily.

Personally I'd be happy to sacrifice top end for better acceleration. Where the hell can you do 150 in the UK anyway?

a 3.6 final drive sounds good to me. il look into a bit more.

il be needing top speed when travelling to the europeon vw shows. quite a few of the westside cars are 20vt and i need to show them that the vr's rule.

cheers

my gf has a ibiza 2001/2002 model tdi 110hp sport

i was thinking abouth reseaching if that gearbox would fit to my engine when she drives abouth 120km/h she does abouth 1100 rmp less than me

so i was thinking what would that do with my engine?

you can only compare stuff like that if the engines are identical.

and it'll prob be an 02M casing, which is quite a lot heavier than the 02A that we have in the vr6's, and a lot of work to fit into a vr6.

if you're asking about my car then you're best asking grant at grant motrsport as he still has my car and while he was doing my engine i kept adding more to the spec. let me know and i'll give you his number.

as for seeing my car i haven't even seen it since 2 days before inters. there are some pics of the new engine that i had on the westside site. in case you're confused i had an engine built for this year and 2 days before inters i hit the sump on the motorway and now it's getting done all over again.

Hiten, you coming to mania coz forum was loads of fun. gotta say the 20v did rule, saquib was quick but then again shazi was quicker in the mk1.

not much domination with the vr's only sukh and peter....so bring it out as mine wont be ready till next season. ;)

i wont be going to mania this year as im busy with work this weekend plus i still aint got my car back.

grant deals with a lot of 24v engines too and he said that he could get around 400-450 bhp out of them but i guess they are race spec. still sounds good for a naturally aspirated engine. you can ring him on 07967 914362 and tell him i gave you his number.
