is it time for a re-spray

when im waxing/polishing my car i get this type of effect in the paint not sure what the little dots are but it looks like the stuff im using is getting caught on them then spread out into the little points you see, does any of this make sense? and if so how do i get rid of it? its doing my head in, the dots are in no particular pattern but are probably 3rd of a mm to half a mm in size and there thousands of them all over the place, ive probably tried about 90% of the different polish's and t-cut type products in halfords and lots of different microfibre and polishing cloths but nothing is working, once ive washed the car i can run a clean dry polishing cloth over the paint and feel it catching on these dots, is this some sort of surface contaminant stuck to or in the paint or is it just time for a re-spray

I got the meguiars clay kit.. it's amazing.. give a real glass finish to the bodywork and u be amazed how much crap comes off the car.. a little expensive but if you do buy it - make usre u break up the clay bar into smaller chunks before applying

Fantastic i did mine this week and then polished it up with Autoglym Lifeshine

it feels very wierd rubbing clay on ya paint but you will not believe wot comes off!

As said above its a good idea to break it up before using it, If you drop it on the floor throw it away!!!!

well the 22 quid in halfords for the clay kit is crtainly a lot better than coughing up the grand or so for a same colour re-spray thats for sure. will give that a try, thanks for the advice, will update when ive had a go at it, ive downloaded a couple of detailers hand books to read through just to make sure i understand all there is to know about using it, will just have to wait and see now

Deffinatlet try the Megs Quick Clay,

Tyr putting you hand in a plastic sandwich bag and then running your hand over the car and you feel the bumps even more.

Yeah, just like the others have said, clay shoud remove all that rubbish. It'll be either sap or tar thats stuck to the surface but clay is perfect for removing it and a nice gentle clay like the megs one should be ideal.

You'll be amazed not only by how much crud comes off but how smooth it leaves your paint afterwards. The resulting surface is then ready for some wax/sealant afterwards.

Very worst case scenario m8 is that it might be swarf I was a panel beater spray painter for 15 years and have seen this before many times, its caused by hot metal coming off the grinder when the cars not properly covered which burns into the paint and stays there and rusts, even if the car has had no bodywork they often get parked next to a car that has when its in the garage. Like I say though I sincerely hope not though. A freind of mines car which was parked next to a lamp post that was getting cut down by the council with a stihl saw, they covered his car which was white, even a respray did'nt cure it the rust dots kept coming to the top/

Best way of checking run your finger nail over the lumps and see if you nail clicks.
