VR6Mal 0
Ok the problem i have is front is sittin higher than rear, would it b ok on 40's with a 30/35mm drop?
binliner 0
35mm drop shouldn't rub... you'll be able to fit your hand in the gap between tyre and arch! you've mentioned tyre size but not the width/offset of the wheels?
VR6Mal 0
7.5 * 17 no idea wot offset it is, how do I find that out?
VR6Steve 0
Certainly on some of the factory wheels its stamped on them as ET**
VR6Mal 0
put on the 7.5 by 17, front still sitting higher than rear, no rubbing at rear, but on full lock the front is locking, at the front part of arch,so if I lowered would it get worse, or simply stay the same, and when i mean rubbing very slightly,Looking at bilstein coilover with height n pressure adjust, cheapest im getting 960+VAT, is it worth it, are they cheaper kits just as good as bilstein, or should I get cheap BOGE suspension set up from German n Swedish? six appeal 53
Get yourself some FK Konigsport coilovers mate, cheaper than the Bilsteins and everyone I know who has them has rated them highly, including myself.
mark@vagworx 0
I wouldn't bother paying the extra cash for the Bilsteins, when as Six Appeal said there are quality coilover kits out there for less money....FK Konigsport, Weitec, Koni etc.I run the Koni kit and can't fault it. bazz780 0
i just lowered mine on some PATEC coilovers, i can just about put my hand inbetween the tyre and the arch front and back, best thing is does not rub at all full lock etc and goes over speed bumps like a dream, its on 215/40/
dubloke 4
vr6mal-is your suspension standard set-up now? if it is it may be that the rear shocks are trashed more than the fronts! i had this problem with mine when i lowered it! it sat lower at back then front, and when i lowered it by 60mm, it only went down 35 at the back from a measured height prior to lowering, indicating that it was already lower than it should be at the back! and the rear shocks that came off were totally fubar when tested! BigSi 0
Didn't want to start another thread off as mine is virtually the same topic!Mine is on standard suspension and I'm getting exactly the same, less gap between the top of the wheel and the wheel arch at the rear than at the front. Its a 1997, done 46K and I'm the suspension doesn't seem to have been touched since it rolled off the forecourt!I was planning to go from the standard 205/50/15" BBS alloys to the VW 16" montreal II alloys and put 215/40's on (I have been told Toyo Proxes are excellent tyres and good value at approx £80 a corner).I'm also planning to upgrade anti-roll bars front and rear as I find I gat a lot of rock and roll when pushing it at all.I've seen loads of other threads on this topic and still not sure which bars to go for!Was going to leave the poly bushes and lowering kit for now due to £££'s.But now I have read about the difference in gap between the front and rear wheels to wheel arches I'm not so sure %-6 One of the things I was worried about if I changed the suspension would be the comfort of the ride - what are peoples experiances after lowering?Any thoughts from anybody on any of the above will be gratefully received 8o)
bazz780 0
well the ride will become more bumpy and stiff on coilovers and a bit less bumpy on springs and shocks, overall u will get alot of improved handling id say by about 70% lol, took it round a bend at 80 the other day
madmonkee 0
fun sport, or fun tech are the ones to get apparantly. Basically they are the K+W's old line of suspension.
