Cheapest way to 240-250 bhp?

Recommended Posts

iv got exhaust and induction kit whats the best/cheapest way to 240-250 geegees :D

why 240-250bhp? is the question... how can I make my car go faster in a straight line?

just to add to the debate the s/c VR6s at the pod didnt seem to be much more than 1/2 a sec quicker than standard ones... is that £2500 well spent? &|

If you want a quick 1/4 mile car dont buy a heavy front wheel drive car - period....

What im trying to say is a SC equipped VR6 is not going to highlight the difference on a 1/4 mile strip where traction in the first and second is a balancing act - a stock VR6 can put all its grunt down in the lower gears whereas a SC equipped car will have to balance power over traction and hence will possibly be slower in the first 1/8th mile than a stock car...

My Saab which i have just sold was running over 240bhp at the front wheels and was a right headache to pull away at anything more than a snails pace because when the power came in whilst in the first two gears you might as well forget it - i can lauch the VR6 alot quicker......

Pete.

14.2 is a lot quicker than 15.4

Yeah but the s/c vrs I saw on the day didnt do 14.2 (I'm not doubting that evil did 14.2 btw)

I was just raising a point, namely what is the goal... just to get 250bhp on a rolling road? a quicker 1/4 mile? an all round smoother more driveable car? pure top end speed?

The gearbox and driveshafts can handle up to and probably beyond 300 bhp thanks to German over-engineering and anyway it's torque which breaks gearboxes. I'm sure the engine can handle the relatively modest levels of torque a charger produces. The power of the supercharger is progressive which helps limit the strain put on these components and means that traction isn't a huge issue. You'd be amazed what difference good tyres make.

The current supercharger kits are designed to run on a standard engine. No need to change the headgasket, pistons etc. You'd only consider that if you blew the engine up. It costs £2500 because it actually does something and does a lot more than many smaller mods added together.
