Asap help , doing chains .

Recommended Posts

kk in the process of doing the chains the Highline . becouse its been pikey'd i dont trust whats been done , coupe of quick questions i need to know before getting it back together tomorow .

1- the plates/covers alloy ones , (top one has the upper tensioner in it and the bottom one has the rear main oil seal) . is there a gasket for these?? or do i just use sealer??

2- how do i cheak the condition of the bottom hydrolic tensioner ?

been fun so far doin the chains ,many times more easier than me n dave were expecting (touch wood) certainly something we'd do again! bit peeved off with who ever last work on this poor vr , the rattle was caused by the upper guide having the lower bolt of the three (alen key one) left lose!!!! im mean wtf!! its had a new upper chain and tensioner but the bottom hasent been touched , odd .

things found lose so far consist of -

#front engine mount

#many of the 10mm that hold the chain covers on

#upper chain guide

cheers .

fair point made , but there all new (apart from lower tensioner) , no need to replace . everyhting is spot on execpt the pikeyed guide bolt . we replaced the upper hydro tensioner as part of the course . if it was a customers car it would be getting the full works treatment . for our first chain change its gone very well !!

plus side - got it back together today and its all running shweet , timings spot on . pulls and drives like a Vr should !!! fookin well that is .

just theres a problem with the cooling sytem now . its running hot and fans arnt going off . its not headgasket . suspect blockage somewhere or stuck shut stat . possible wp . were gonna get it in peaces tomorow . should of noticed it earlier but we didnt want to run it up to temp when the chains are rattling so loud you cant hear the engine!!

cheers for the advice guys :)
