Chiefwiggum29 0
just bought my vr6, been looking at peoples threads about timing chains. so i made a few calls to see how much it would cost. i was told the cost would be around £850 inc parts and labour. would it not be easier to buy a re-con engine and have that fitted??your thoughts on this would be helpfull so i can make my mind up. VR6Pete 1,455
Just to the chains and at a push the clutch mate.thats about the right price for labour and parts, as the gearbox has to come off. everything else can be left in place.speak to stealth or the phrim for more prices before getting it done. Guest simplyvr6
i agree Yes you definaltley don't need to replace the engine at 100k.
veedubnutz 0
Theres no way on gods green earth i'd pay £850 to have the chains done on mine. I had my lump out at xmas, did chains, guides, tensioners, seals, headgasket, new bolts, thermostat etc etc and only cost around 200 quid in parts. Get your hands dirty matey! EmkayVR6 0
ye me too, started doin work on my own cars a few years back, must have saved myself loadsa cash by now. With the guides on this forum, a copy of the bently vr6 manual or at least a cd with the important bits(good old ebay!) and plenty of people on here willing to give advice and help when needed theres no reason why u can't do it yourself, though a few tools might help i spose! lol
