VR6 DUBBER 0
Hi all, I have had my 16v MK3 for 6yrs now and its time to fit the engine that I always wanted the VR6. I have been told that the MK3 16v to VR6 is one of the easiest conversions to do as the cars are more or less set up the same except the the VR Engine. I have the ECU, Loom and Keyimob it is the highline engine. Is anyone in agreement that this is an easy project to undertake ? Has anyone done this before, if so please your advise would be welcome. (i) Thanks

craggsy 91
Do a 1.8T as they never built a Mk3 one....as has been said why build what you can buy
VR6Pete 1,455
I cant imagine it beeing too hard, Carl from Stoke VW spares does conversions like this all day long!Plus you get satisfaction out of doing it your self, obviously depends what you've had done to the GTI though, but it sounds like you have all the bits already. Depends on what you fancy doing really
VR6 DUBBER 0
Hi all, thanks for all your replys, pick up the engine this weekend hopefully ! As for doing a 1.8T I don't want to get involved in that as the engine was never done for the MK3 so imagine the nightmare trying to get it all rigged up,plus need to save mechanic costs. I would love to do the converstion myself, but I think its better I let a mechanic do it, I can change starter motors, take out the injectors but that is as far as it goes, gearboxes no clue about those or drive shafts. Anyone fancy helping me do as a challenge ? lol ! See ya !
VR6Pete 1,455
Take pictures, do a journal, show us your progress, problems etc... this sort of stuff is invaluable to other members who may wish to take up a simlar challenge.
VR6 DUBBER 0
Will do eventually !

VR6 DUBBER 0
Hi AllI am back again to ask more questions as I ma new to the VR engine. Firstly what different about the VR6 Highline engine and other VR's., Secondly how do I identify the engine code ? Sorry if these are simple questions but thses are things I need to find out. Thanks guys and gals. *-)
VR6 DUBBER 0
Here is a picture the car that is to be converted into the VR6. Changed Wheels since this photo, Got 17inch O.Z Supertourismo wheels now. Colour coded bumpers and side trims to be done once engine in.All Interior is Leather with aircon etc, was used by VW in its hey day as a demonstrator so they pull the full works on it.This is the second reason why doing the conversion because of the high spec. craggsy 91
No difference between highline engine and standard engine. The difference is the management and throttle body plus something else I cant remember called OBD1 and OBD2...OBD1s usually around 170bhp and OBD2s about 190bhp
VR6 DUBBER 0
Thanks Craggsy, I think that its ODB2 from the quick glance the other day.
VR6 DUBBER 0
Hi all, I have found out what i need to do this conversion, guys i think i need some encouragement as it is going to be a lot of work. Those of you with a VR6 will i be rewarded by my hard work. How many supporters have i got out there ? I could have just bought a vr6 but its not fun, its to easy. See ya.
matth76 1
As said already, no difference in the highline engine to non-highline. A highline vr6 only means it has extra "cosmetic" interior trim options. Nothing different under the bonnet ...same power etc. All vr's (highline and non-highline) from mid 1995 are OBD2 meaning different ecu as mentioned above and a couple of other changes and a nice 10bhp extra on average.Good luck with your conversion... let us know how you get on.
