i have been trolling through the forum looking at the posts on 6 branches the thing is no one talks about what the gained from them they posts just seem to stop once they have fitted them. I would not expect massive power gains but what about torque and any how they drive is it any different ?

all people seem to talk about how they sound . Do they help the lack of power in the lower rpms?

well hope fully ill be find out soon when i get my rolling roaded with this south meet, bet from wot ive found it give u more response on throttle and get the gasses out quicker due to less restrictions ... is ur vento standard engine wise??

Ok, good one.

I found that as I had my pipe and mani fitted at the same time I didn't get a noticeable change in drivability. U know like usually when you put just a pipe on you can feel the change in the low end vs the high end when you drive it.

You do not get huge increases as basically there is not enough space in the engine bay for it on the golf. (VW did a good job at day one within the design constraints). I would expect 5-10BHP! You

do need to heat wrap it also... which helps wick the heat away aswell! Als depends what pipes you have on as well of course!

I found that the manifold helped me get both the the low down torgue & top end drop off back that I would have expected to loose from the new pipes. (Depnding on which ones you have fitted).

Overall I am happy I have it and would fit one again! The only thing I would do differently is ensure I have a flex piece in so.... when I need to work on the engine I do not have to worry so much about the strain on the manifold as they dont like it ;) when I lift the engine (water pump for example).

i have a jetex stanless 2 box cat back system and a raceland stanless decat pipe . i would put the flexi in the decat as the bloke nextdoor can weld stanless. The engine is stock just a pannel filter with a home made cold air / ram air feed . 6 branch should be my next mod then thanks

mines not heat wrapped, and ive had no problems, i also got 199.7bhp with a 6 branch , decat and ramair filter.....thats from a standard 174, so 25 bhp aint bad.

my flexi is just before my decat pipe. its very big , as ive been the victim of it spliting my last 4 branch on my 16v

From my own experience I gained a slight bit of torque... possibly 5-10 lbs/ft but no extra bhp. If anything I have found mine a hassle as it got a slight blow in it (only very slight and doesn't affect performance in any way) and its a good quality one with proper joints etc and I have Vibra tech engine mounts, all to prevent blows but made no difference, however if I was going to do it again I wouldn't have bothered. The gain hasn't been worth it in my opinion but that is my own opinion, mainly down to the fact that they are so prone to getting blows. I've been told by a reputable specialist that heat wrapping increases the chances of the stainless steel shearing resulting in a blow because it makes the stainless steel get extremely hot. On the upside though it is supposed to aid heat transfer which is a good thing. I've left mine unwrapped and it still developed a slight blow. I didn't notice any noise difference at all - the only strange noise was inside the car - you can actually hear the exhaust gasses flow through which is cool... but you can't hear it from the outside of the car. My Milltek does drown out any noise though. If it were me I would put the money towards getting some 268 cams (will need a remap afterwards though if you get cams fitted) - they are better value for money powerwise - with a gain of at least 10-15bhp.

Worth noting the standard OBD2 Vr made mid 1995 onwards has around 185-190bhp as standard. The earlier obd1 VR has around the 175-180bhp mark. Let us know how you get on with what ever you go for. Good luck mate
