jezmoz 0
Car (golf mk3 vr6) was very tappety yesterday, checked oil and it was dry as a bone. Doesn't it give a warning when the oil is low? Apart from sounding like a diesel!!!! Engine is fine now I filled it up with Synta. Cheers Jez
VR6Rich 3
You should get the oil warning lamp flashing at you, ,does it come on when you turn on the ignition?

VR6Rich 3
And go off when the engines started?
VR6Rich 3
Its possible that the oil light only registers low oil pressure rather than low oil level! Im not sure though...
jezmoz 0
That's what I thought, well how whank is that! I'll have to check it more often after long journeys. Cheers Rich

vr6newcomer 1
yeah i have checked and filled mine up religiously since my engine rebuild, and the light never comes on!! but mine drinks about half a litre of oil every 1000 miles, so just make sure u check it more often. matth76 1
The oil buzzer only sounds when you have low oil pressure. This is quite normal and the same on most cars (I agree it is odd they didn't employ one that uses oil level as that would be far better). You don't ever want to hear the oil warning buzzer! Serious engine damage can be caused if you have low oil pressure. Main thing is to check it regularly every two or three weeks.
vr6newcomer 1
well irrespective of indicators and buzers, i can hear and feel when the oil is low. maybe im just getting a bit anal in my old age.
