badboygolfvr6 0
Hi, basically i have a annoying problem with my golf mk3 vr6. i dont know what it is so il describe the problem. while im driving the steering pulls to the left or if i do a full lock to the left the steering almost seems its turning it self i dnt have to put much effort whereas if i full lock to the right it more difficult. also when i clutch control on a up hill the left side of the car makes a creaking sound. i also hear this sound when i drive over road humps. iv been told it could be the steering rack. any ideas what it could be? vr6newcomer 1
steering rack, wishbone bushes or track rod ends will probably be a good place to start mate.
matth76 1
Could be your suspension making the noise going over bumps or doing hill starts or putting the handbrake on hills. Normal for them to be slightly creaky in hotter weather. Could be worth checking your bump stops. As for the pulling to the left could try changing all your tyres to BF Goodrich G-force profilers - do it when you next need new tyres of course. My car used to do what you mention and then it all went away when I had these tyres fitted... was quite surprising. Car now drives in a straight line when I take my hands off the wheel! Phat VR6 3
Mine pulls to the left. More nostiable when first pulling off. Im currenty changing all the bushs for polly items and while having my wishbones off the N/S rear bush was badly worn and cracked which im asuming caused the problem. I will inform when once back on the road to if the problem has gone away
ventovr6essex1 0
ok i have just been on a 4 wheel aliment course and am yet to put my car on works new tool but my car steers to the left and i think this is quite common on vws . A pull to the left or right is when the steering wheel stays straight when let go but the car pulls to the left or right this is most commanly a camber problem or caster . if your steering wheel moves left its a steer this is normal a trust angle problem ie ur rear axel is out of line with the front the front track could also be out but basicly it could be that ur rear wheels are pointing slightly to the right steering the car to te left the rear track is adjustable on golfs there are 3 bolts on the axel monting plate that can be undone so the beam can be moved . i would advise you to find a some one that has a full wheel aliner and get it checked if all is in spec then you can mess with the camber till the car drives straght as the car will always pull to the side with the least camber but this will take time and cash to do . thats were im lucky i will just spend a day playing till i get it right . hope this helps a bit . jesterwalker69 0
Hmmm this seems quite a common problem. Mine also pulls to the left quite badly. In fact i have to have the wheel turned to the right slightly to make it go straight!! But previous owner (Porky) got poly brushes all round fairly recently. Going to get the car 4-wheel laser aligned so hopefully that will bring to light the problem!
ventovr6essex1 0
i have fitted coilovers to my car and polly bushes all round but my car still steers to the left and the steering is quite heavy just need to find the time to have a play . if you can steer away from the 4 wheel aliners that use wires works new tool works on flags that are put on the wheels and infered cameras it cost 10 k they had to have it for the bodyshop but i was sent on the course so some1 in the workshop knew how it worked
jesterwalker69 0
erm slightly lost on the wheel aliners?? The place i'm going uses lasers, is this the one to avoid or do they both use lasers?!Yer i also got coilovers
ventovr6essex1 0
the lazer type is much older and the are in need of calibration often . when i was on the course the bloke said that he does not know one of the later type wheel aliners to have gone out of cal due to the way that they work the flags just reflect and the cameras are up high out of harms reach . the only prblem that they have is that they the flags get dirty so need to be cleaned often . http://www.hunter.com/pub/product/alignmentsystems/index.htm you will see what i mean if you look on this site look at the series 811 system over the pro align
Phat VR6 3
Ive had mine on the lazer type 4 wheel aliment. Which told me the tracking was bady out on the rear. Ive ashumed that the rear axal bushs where bady worn because i also got a nocking noise from the rear end when chucking it round fast corners. The noise changed sides depending on which way i was turning. The axal looks like it isnt bent but is it possible that i have damaged stub axals? The reason i say this is because i have fitted new bearning when changing the discs and cannot seem to remove the play from them nomatter how tight i do the center nuts. My cars also on coilovers.I feel that the 3 bolts on the mounting braket wont provide enuff movent to correct my tracking. Rear axals are way too exspensive to see if thats the problem.I should realy lay off the handbrakes as that carnt help want to buy a brand new vr6 or a car that i dont care about lol
badboygolfvr6 0
Hi, my left front tyre seemed to have worn out but the rest are ok. now iv changed the tyre and the pulling to the left has reduced alot. but the knocking sound on the left handside is still there especially when i take off from a stop. i have changed the ball joint but problem still persists. what should i check next? (something not so expensive just incase its not the problem)
