TURBO VS SUPERCHARGER?

Recommended Posts

Turbo is more than double the price.. lengthy labour involved to deal with the right hand drive uk car. Around 5k mark for turbo and full set up. Very good power - around 400bhp.

Supercharger can be done for around the £2k mark - NS Racing do second hand refurb ones - dub25 on here knows them and can find out if they have them in stock. The power for basic stage is around the 250-280bhp mark.

If you have the dosh and want the ultimate performance then turbo is the one to go for but a charger is a good option as you can take it off and sell it separately when you sell the car, as it is bolt on - if you leave the charger on the car you will lose all the money. Turbo can't be taken off so unfortunately with the turbo you will lose a lot on resale value as you never get the money back when you sell the car. For this reason a charger would be my choice, unless you're planning on keeping the car for quite a few years. Need to ideally include a lsd / uprated diff to put the power down on the road as it's a fwd car.

Going to do it my self. Ive just put new chains, ARP bolts (head, Rods, Mains) and a metal headgasket on it. The head gasket rasies compression to 10. 5:1 as im still driving it around standard.

I was planning and running low boost on this set up and then when the time comes to raise the boost slap some uprated rods and 8.5 low compression JE pistions in it. Just waiting for some cash.

I wasnt going to buy a kit. Just buy bits as i went along. e.g Mainfold, 2.5" Downpipe, Turbo, 38mm Waste gate, Intercooler, Piping.

Then when its time for seirous boost. Add, Rods, Pistions, DTA ECU, Injectors, Fuel pumps, Programable boast timer, Clutch, Peloquin LSD ect

Does it sound like a plan or do you think i should just save up and buy the lot in one go in kit form???

you will never get everythingall atonce dude, unless you want to shell out the better part of 10k in bits and associated labour and stuff. i was down at the phirm last month, they were doing an e.i.p 400 b.h.p conversion on venom motorsports v.r. problem then becomes traction, clutch, e.t.c, and really 400 brake is probably a bit too much for a daily driver.

Ha Ha. Yep what you say is very very true (but i want one anyway lol :) ) Prehaps I should put one in the boot aswell for some 4wd traction!!! IN MY DREAMS!!

Dont surpose anyones put 4wd in a Mk3 say from a mk2 rally or 4 motion?

I was planning on having a boost controler and running it around 250-300bhp when using on the street then turning the boost up when i want to blow a Porche, BMW M3 or take it on the track. But having never owned a turbo i dont know how much control a boast controler gives you.

Think about how much petrol it will be burning :@
