apd 0 Posted August 2, 2004 Report Share Posted August 2, 2004 I am aware there has been a debate about OBD 1[OLDER ENGINE ECU]as opposed to ODB2[NEWER-BETTER CONTROL OF VARIABLES-MORE BHP?].Regardless of the ECU,say 100k a typical run in engine should be up on power?In my case had it RR:180bhp@5950rpm with a flat spot at 3000rp[with a 3bar pump from a mk3 gti until my local vr breaker got me a 4bar pump which is standard on all vrs].any thoughts guys,or shall i just get it RR ASAP as i have lost my RR place at Stealth?Just curious to see if it was chipped and found no evidence on circuit board.serial no above barcode 0 261 203 218/219.other serial no 021 906 258 BK,does this confirm OBD1? acf8181 0 Posted August 2, 2004 Report Share Posted August 2, 2004 180bhp sounds standard to me...a few bhp either way is quite common on all cars.i think the obd2's extra power is often offset by the addition of aircon...i know that a mates highline is certainly no faster than my obd1...in fact, one friend is adament that mine is quicker! IMO every little helps.....that can be the difference between winning and loosing ...as for the seat's as long as they are standard no real problems...its when they get chipped and stuff you need to worry Link to post Share on other sites

VRmonster 1 Posted August 5, 2004 Report Share Posted August 5, 2004 i agree there, my friend drives an older style ibiza gti, but with a newer style cupra 1.8 turbo engine, lol. its like a rocket. it was still only on par with the vr tho, even tho his was stripped and weighed f all. he would kill me now, after all the problems my cars had i dont think she will run right ever again. lol. dubloke 4 Posted August 5, 2004 Report Share Posted August 5, 2004 to be fair tommy, the 172 cup is a much lighter car, and is very quick away from a standing start, however, get them on a m'way and its always a different story! all lightweight 2.0l hot hatches these days will give a vr a good run for their money or even a good spanking, unless you can drive properly(eh, mr.farmer!) , but on an open road where its mid range performance and torque that counts more, its a different kettle of fish! and its not often the vr comes up smelling like grisby docks! I changed to the VR because i had too much money tied up in the Ibiza, and i spent a few bob too. She was just shy of 210bhp and with around 235lb/ft torque......so she was lively. Wanted to get a bigger turbo and intercooler fitted for 260+ ponies but could see myslef spending too much cash......so i had to sell her Pics in the Members car forum.....under 'My Chariot The VR makes up for it though Link to post Share on other sites
