spreadz07 0
Hi guysBought an aftermarket stereo and speakers but after taking out the door speakers I am confused with all the wires. The stereo is in and fine thanks to the ISO plug as are the front speakers but its the rear speakers that are causing me hassle. The original plugs are different than the ones on the new speakers, the new speakers having just 2 plugs (one larger than the other. standard car speaker ones)but the back speakers have 4 wires going to them.Does anyone know what colour wires go on each plug?Any help would be great guys as I dont want to blow my new speakersNige
GraLaw 0
I've never seen four wires going to one speaker before but your best bet is to note + and -, then connect two wires to the new speaker and if it doesn't work try the other two. What colours are the four cables? Also check your stereo's handbook, there may be a colour chart.

CALICO 130
2 wires go to the tweeter then they are piggy backed same as the front the wires enter the door and go straight to the tweeter then the other wires come from the tweeter and go to the woofer /larger speaker
spoonman2 2
Thanks for the help, but how come the fronts only had two wires going to them?If what you said is true, does this mean the wiring at the front is supposed to be the same?I didn't think I had tweeters in the rear atall?97' 5 door Thanks again for your help Ian
spoonman2 2
Well... can anyone else give me help atall? Many thanks in advance Ian
thegoth 5
Thanks for the help' date=' but how come the fronts only had two wires going to them?If what you said is true, does this mean the wiring at the front is supposed to be the same?I didn't think I had tweeters in the rear atall?97' 5 door Thanks again for your help Ian[/quote']the front tweeters are in the dash and are wired direct. makes no sense to wire them to the door speakers, would just be extra wires/connectors on the door plug.the rear tweeters are up near the opening lever, IIRC I have a 3 door, 2 inch diameter gauze? Wiring them as they are means you only have to disconnect one connector to remove the cards.
CALICO 130
The front speakers are the same the wiring comes from the headunit to the tweter then from the tweeter onto the door speaker. the rear speaker wires run to the rear tweeter in the door then fromthere to the large speaker in the door. Vw run capcitors on the tweeters to filter out unneeded frequencies( there the blue things soldered on to the back of the tweeters
CALICO 130
maybe on your car the wires go to the woofer then the ones coming from the woofer go to the tweeter try taking the tweeter out of the top of the rear door and see how many wires are attached onto the back of it if there are only 2 then this would mean there would be 4 going onto the woofer (large speaker)

spoonman2 2
Speakers are in now thanks for the help Seems only 2 wires of the 4 are from the head unit, once we decided which were which the install took less than an hour to do. Have put the large infinity crossover boxes in the space on top of the dash under the grills, then attached the tweeters to the top of the crossover. Will upload some pics when I download them from my phone. Thanks again
