Guest Blue180
Hi all, and a very good day to yer, only just recently bought my Vr6 and have since become a member. I'm selling my GTi 8v soon'ish and will use some of the cash to spruce up my V. The previous owner had a magnex stainless full exhaust system, pipercross induction kit and KW adjustable suspension fitted last year, lucky ol' me. So all in all its going to be mostly appearence work on mine, although I do have an issue with the suspension. Any tips/advice relating to the below would really be appriecated. I'll post a few picks when the weather turns, it's a purple one mind you! Everytime I tried to by a black one in the past, they'd always been sold by the time I'd called the seller. Always the bridesmaid eh.1. I don't think the previous owner had the suspension set up correctly, it's been lowered 50mm. The problem is it pulls to the left, especially exaggerated when excelarating! After a major service I was told it is most probably a chamber weighting issue, or a faulty shock absorber. Does this sound right?2. Whats the average price for a good quality full body respray? Bearing in mind I'll be changing the colour from purple to black, does anyone have names/companys they'd recomend in the NorthWest or EastMidlands? Failing that, might just get the panels that need it a touch up, and can anyone give pointers on good cleaning/polishing/waxing products?3. Also the driver door doesn't quite sit perfectly flush(I'm a fussy sod!), not a big issue but a sure sign of a little prang. Any places that could be recomended to resolve this? If they could do the paintwork too that would be a bonus.Well that's about it, not the kind of burning issues that keep me awake at night, yet if we didn't care about our cars we wouldn't be on here, am I right? In fairness I did get it for a decent price considering the amount spent on upgrades recently by previous owner, so must'nt grumble.I know I've rambled on a bit, but thanks for taking the time out, any reply's will be read and appriecated.Cheers
craggsy 91
What do you mean by "purple"? A bluey purple or a maroon colour?Get some pics up, doesn't matter if its clean or not
magic_tree 0
Good to hear you got a VR. My drivers door has dropped slightly. It jst lifts about 5mm when clodsed. I think this may be common, especially on 3 doors. The same happens with MK1's. I would check if it is just drooping a bit, or is it acually bent or pushed in/out slightly. kalv 0
With regards to the suspension and pulling... when i fitted mine, it pulled alot to the right... had the 4-wheel alignment done and got the wheels balanced and it does it ever so slightly.. bloke at garage said it's best they could do cause of the amount it's lowered and the age of the car... Guest Blue180
Cheers for the reply chaps! Craggsy, its definately on the blue side of purple if thats sounds right. Indigo blue I think is the proper name. Yeah will post some pics over the weekend, just don't wanna stand outside taking pics of my car in the rain, some people I work with think I'm already obsessed, have been known to clean my GTi a few time a week.Magic tree, it might just be a little sagging like you say, but then I definately can feel it rise ever so slighty and drop again when I'm closing the door, as tho its just not quite sitting right after maybe being taken off and put back on again. Ha ho, its not a burning issue, you know what its like, nobody else on the planet would notice, but when its yours it stands out like a burberry chav at the opera!. Not that I go to opera! Kalv, theres no doubt its because its been lowered, and when I take it somewhere to a speacialists to have it looked at, I may even have it raised 10-15mm, speedbumps and pot holes are killing me. The garage that I mentioned that suggested the suspension settings and shocks is one I've used regularly with my GTi, (shit load of problems, somebody's gonna get a bargin when they buy it, its like a brand new one now!) Anyhow this garage is one who's opinion I definately trust after the dealings I've had with them, and they do all the servicing for a supercar dealership next door.(I'm talking brand spanking new Lambo's, Ferrari's and Aston's). Had a major service there the first week I bought my Vr, and asked them to align the wheels, still the same afterwards, so I'll just persevere for now. Again thanks for your input fellas, appreciated.
