grinding noise from the drivers front anyone?

Recommended Posts

as title says, it grinds more when i turn left then when i go right. I thought it was that shim between the disc and suspension (cover plate thingy) cos its been bent. Thought it might of been pushing onto the wheel. But its not that. U think its wheel bearings?

wheel bearings dont usually make grinding noises, they just hum progressively louder as they get worse! sounds like something fouling the wheel as it turns but without hearing it is difficult to really diagnose! jack the car up while the engine is ticking over and get a friend to turn the steering whell while you have a peek underneath and see if you can hear/see anything untoward! and go from there, unless anyone else has ahd the same experience on here?

the cover plate on the disc is bent could be that, looks like the garage undid the track rod without tacking off the wheel and bent the plate behind the disc, ive tried pushing it back but its springy steel and comes back :) Where can i get new ones from!?

Eat yer porridge Dean!!! :P

It will lever back without fear of damage, may look a little buckled but it sure won't foul the disc etc.Give it a try and see what happens, you'll find that most secondhand ones are buckled anyway so new would be the only way to go and I don't think they're cheap either... Oh! and most end up bent or buckled due to stone damage/debris and poor mehanics...(Not You I might add, but whoever repairs your "Baby")

Try that, but I wouldn't bother too much, unless its a show car... :D

I have exactly the same problem, Madmonkee. And my disc backing plates are fine.

I suspect the brake pads. I'm putting some new ones on this weekend. I'll post this thread and let you know if it cures the problem.
