hi, its worth having the problem properly diagnosed before you start ripping it apart, there are several things that would cause oil to burn. How long has the existing oil been in there?

You dont need a cam tool to lock the cams, I did mine without it, but you do need to be careful and double check everything. Turn the engine over by hand to check nothing's going to touch anything etc.

German Swedish and French sell a lot of parts for vws at lower prices, most of their stuff is original equipment quality.

If you got the Bentley manual from the US then you should be ok, it has 90% of the info needed in my opininion, anything it doesn't cover, just ask on here...

Mines done 147k so i don't think just a head rebuild will sort mine lol! It doesn't smoke at every junction only sometimes! Think i'll take a look at the plugs and see if that can tell me anything...then its compression test time!

Might look into it tho

rebuild is well under way nothing really major stood out when we strippped it down waiting for the engineering place now so we can start putting the jigsaw back together again. Havin to have a rebore but cant afford to have a oversize rebore. hope to be back up and running by next weekend.!!

acf how u know u got low comp in cylinder 3??

you looking for a more obvious answer than a compression test? lol

tony at autmotive solutions did a compression test' date='its slightly under the tolerance. the rest are spot on the same.

When i had my plugs changed 3rd cylinder plug was damp.... y?

i have no idea. someone is bound to though.
