vr6 g3 0
Just wondering if anyones running a rotrex charger on here and how they compare against the vortech charger ??
VR6_Dan 0
Ive heard good things about em but its still early days to say, i looked at both types when i was considering charging my VR and i was gonna go with the Rotrex. Give Andy at Storm a ring about the rotrex system, top bloke who has got a lot of time for his customers! Rotrex chargers can run sick amounts of boost much more than vortechs can and the supply and fit prices at Storm are very good too, Andy's mk2 VR6 was pushing a mind blowing 500 bhp, he did blow the crank but the charger was still good lol! Personally i would give rotrex a go just to be different if anything! Hope this helps.
VR6Pete 1,455
I'd prefer sticking to the tried and tested applications, when your talking chargers and the price it comes to alltogether... I've not seen anyone outside of storm developments with a rotex charger yet, and that raises questions in my eye's... But thats just my opinion
VR6Rich 3
Ive seen a corrado over on the corrado forums running a rotrex charger but I believe he decided to remove it and sell it on as it was producing too much boost, causing stuff to break that needed replacing due to it not being strong enough. VR6_Dan 0
the system has only been available in the UK for a short time i thought and people will always tend to stick to what they know. The Koenigsegg 806bhp V8 engine runs a rotrex charger. You would of thought a car that costs that much money would have had a lot of money invested into researching the very best superchargers in the world.
VR6Rich 3
As long as you've got a deep pocket to upgrade everything else that might break then going for a rotrex is good for the amount of power it can produce,
VR6_Dan 0
Knowing you can turn the boost up more is extremely tempting but keeping it at a sensible level should avoid costly repairs.
vr6 g3 0
Thanks for your replies on this, it sounds like if your running uprated internals and lower compression then the rotrex maybe the one to go for, if i was to buy a charger i'd probley go for the vortech then with it being tried and tested like pete says. Kelster 0
Was searching for Rotex superchargers as I am planning on getting mine done and came across this old post. Surely, a rotex running 8-10PSi is gonna cause just as much strain on the engine as any of the other tried and test superchargers running 8-10 PSi. So why do people say that "if your running uprated internals and lower compression then the rotrex maybe the one to go for". Surely this will be needed on any FI system running that amount of boost ? Eat this 2
rotrex tend to run more boost thats why

Lizard Racing 0
I have one on mine and cannot fault how the car runs. Andy supplied me with only the charger the rest I sourced myself. I know many people running these on Saxos and 106s. Some with well over 300hp!
Eat this 2
im after info for 1 on a 4mo pref with an intercooler
Lizard Racing 0
Do you know how much torque the 4wd will handle?
Eat this 2
nope but thats where centrifugal chargers excel theres no big increse in torque aka turbo and they tend to make more hp than lb ft due to the linear increase in boost it all makes them much kinder on the transmission than turbos especially big turbos
Lizard Racing 0
Then it will depend on how much you want to spend as to what level of tune you go for. Should be fairly straight forward to do though to run 8psi for starters.
Eat this 2
im gunning for 400 bhp+ as i want at least the same bhp per ton as the mk3 (278) and itd need 403 bhp to acheive it so thats the targeti expect to use a spacer gasket to lower the compression a bit and bigger injectors to stop it melting the pistons i do want an intercooler of some description apart from that im not sure what id need
Lizard Racing 0
Whats your budget? If you run a similar spec to me you will see 400+ easily. The 12.5mpg is a joke though!
Eat this 2
12.5 mpg wtf the vr actually gets better mpg with the charger lol its around 25-26 overall hehebudget is kinda open ended atm i need to price things up can you get decat pipes for the mk4 4mo? Lizard Racing 0
Yeah I do mostly town driving and I use it as my daily at the moment. Does the 4mo run 4 lambdas and 2 cats like the R32? If you go standalone it will simplify things.
Eat this 2
the vr was the only car we had iv no idea how many lambdas/catsit has
adam_christie 0
@ Lizardracing: How much did the Rotrex set you back if you don't mind me asking?
Lizard Racing 0
I think the charger with bracket, traction oil (£60 per litre!) and cooler was about £2k but it may have been more. To get the engine to where it is now though has cost me more than 4 times that.
