stusnook 0
The air-con on my VR6 is fine, but on our Mk3 Tdi GL its developed a very noisey 'rattle' whenever you turn it on. So for a couple of months we didn't use the air-con at all !! Then over the weekend it was so hot I used it during a long journey. Now the air-con has stopped working but bizarrely the loud rattle has changed - it now rattles when the air-con is switched off rather than when its switched on!! When I switch the air-con on the rattle stops (but I don't get any air-con cold air!)Took it into the garage and he's diagnosed it as a Air-con pump. Looking down at the air-con pump (the thing underneath the alternator) I can see that at the belt end is a plate that looks bent. I guess this is some sort of clutch. Anyway to get to the point: Does anyone know if I need a specific VW Golf Mk3 TDI Air-con pump, or can I use one from any Golf Mk3, or any VAG car from 1996, or is there even a Ford part that will fit and cost less??? richievr 1
all the mks's have the same pump, except the VR which has its own special one... of course...but there are 2 different makes, sanden and harrison so you must make sure you get the right one to match your car.......but the sanden seems to be more common as the harrison was only used 95/96 model year....best bet is to take the part number from yours and match it up to any prospective purchase... stusnook 0
Thanks for the info RichieVR.Update: my mechanic has ordered the Air-Con clutch assembly from VW as this is available separately and appears to be the offending part! It'll take a few days to come through from VW, so car booked back in for next Mon.
stusnook 0
On closer inspection its not the air-con clutch, the air-con pump itself is knackered.Part number is SD7V16-1100 and needs to have a pulley for a 6PK belt (hope that makes more sense to you than it does to me!).... Anyway, does anyone happen to have one lying around, or know where I can get one cheaply?
richievr 1
i think that is a sanden pump, but however that is not a vw part number.can you see if there are any other numbers on it ????richie
