hellsVR6 0
If you look in the FAQ's I think it tells you how to reset your service counter, it's a bit of jiggling about with the trip meter button and keys in/out.Be VERY CAREFUL with your serpentine belt AND tensioner. Mine went on me the other week and cost £167 for the two to be replaced.....The belt itself is about £24 and if you know what you're doing, then get it sorted asap! 01 service is oil change/plugs blah blah and 02 service is the full monty AFAIK

Buzzark 0
You're welcome. But I can't take all the credit, I just copied what Mr VW wrote. Really does make you wonder where your service money goes at the dealers doesn't it!
ringosnose 0
just got a quote from my local garage for a majour sevrice without plugs at £280 and to change the serp belt £54 fitted.Do these prices sound about right?
hellsVR6 0
£280 for a service? Don't do it!Mine is going to Awesome GTI (I know no good for you obv...lol) but they charge £120 for a full service. So if the serpentine belt costs £24 from VW (maybe cheaper elsewhere) they are charging you £30 to fit it, it's only half an hour of a job. To change the belt AND tensioner was only 1hrs labour when I had it done (was robbed £62 labour for that)..so their labour is expensive...main stealer prices that mate! ringosnose 0
sorry yeah mine is in01 and 2 1not oel 01 02.maybe they did away with the oel reminder as its covered in a 01 sevrice anyhow. And as a new car i cant see why you would need to change the oil twice a year unless you were doing over the 10k service mark or thrashing the living shit out of it.Obviosly now the vr6 is middle aged its good to give it more frequent oil changes.Just like old people use cod liver oil to ease there joints the vr like clean oil to keep the atheritus at bay
Buzzark 0
Yes, I think I'm going to shorten the interval on mine. I just changed it with about 7/8000 miles since it's last change and it was far dirtier than I thought. Looked fairly clear on the dipstick but much darker when I drained it although it wasn't sludgey at all.I've just switched to fully synthetic to clean it out without resorting to an engine flush so it's a couple of quick changes on mine as it'll be removing quite a bit of varnish as the detergents clean.
