Guest Mackem in NZ
Took my 92 VR6 to VAG and put it on their computer, the engine idle had been up and down between 1000 and 400 revs and more smoke than expected out the back. Starnge sulphur small also. mightyvr6 0
Think it basically means the lambda sensor needs replacing. (worth checking the wiring first for breaks) Usually when this part fails the ecu defaults into limp mode and runs rich (adds more fuel than is required and exceeds the adapted limit) which would explain the smokey exhaust. The engine speed sender fault code - ignore this, it just means the engine wasn't switched on when the car was on the computer hence no signal. Guest Mackem in NZ
Cheers mate - any ideas if its an easy job and are they expensive?
binliner 0
didn't VW explain these faults to you when you were there?
andy 0
I paid £95 ish to have a new lambda sensor bought and fitted when the beast failed its mot on emissions, 1 part per million over the limit!
mightyvr6 0
Its faily easy to replace; you have unclip the connector which sits on the rear engine mount and go underneath the car and unscrew the probe from the exhaust. Then reset the ecu.
might3 0
Do you HAVE to get the ECU reset? If so how is it done?
