twin twotone turbos 0
Can anyone please tell me the best engine oil to use. I always put Castrol Edge Sport 0/40 in her. I had a full service today and when they changed oil and filter it was very clean but they said it was not a good idea to use it as it is too thin. Think they put 15/30 or 15/40 back in?Is this right or is the 0/40 ok to use.ThankyouSean

Buzzark 0
0w-40 isn't thin, when hot it's exactly the same thickness (but with higher film strength) as a 10w-40 semi-synthetic oil. It just flows better when cold as it's thinner at that point, but it's never thinner than when it's hot.Flowing better when cold is good, 0w-40.Too thin when hot is bad, 5w-30.0w-40 which will be a fully synthetic should be just fine. There are some great resources about oil on the net, have a look if interested - otherwise just use any oil that meets or exceeds the standards. Buzzark 0
. Think they put 15/30 or 15/40 back in?Oh... and if they put either of those in they want shooting, or at least avoiding in the future. You're heading into winter you don't want a 15w oil in there when the engine is specced for a maximum cold thickness of a 10w oil.I'd drain and replace asap (filter will be OK obviously). I knew i should 'nt of as i did not want his staff working on it, it was just convenieant at the time(strapped for cash). Act in haste, repent at leisure.Again, thankyou.Sean. 4mobora 0
in a high miller 0w40 would blow past worn stem seals/ guides or rings and/or oil pressure probs so is really too thin vw spec is 10w40 they put it in for a reason i think. a rebuilt engine is ok but past 70000/ 80000 your asking for trouble then again theres 5w40? 15w40 in a vr never! I grew up working around cars but they were never interested in modding mine. Mind you, i am really sh*t at cars. Not at all mechanicly minded. :$
