New Exhaust (New idea, but would it work???)

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a new exhaust and headers at the moment and was wondering if an idea I had would work.

I was thinking of getting custom headers made up so that i can have a duel exit exhaust with three cylinders going to each exit, this would mean running two pipes down to the back of the car.

Would the lambada sensor still work ok if it was only monitoring 3 cylinders or can you run it safely without using the lamabda sensor?

It was a thought that sprung into my mind, any ideas if it could work??

I can understand your way of thinking but im unsure if it work or not .

Would it not be easier to fork the twin exit exhausts off from the center box (just an idea)

Also your idea how to have it , this could fook up the performance rather than increase it !

not really looking for a twin exit just something a bit different, for the headders it should be a smoother journey for the bases as there is only one junction ( 3-1 instead of 6-2-1) it may not make any difference but thought i would throw an idea into the pot to see what others think of it

as regards to running 3 cylinders to each header theres only one lambda probe so what you would have to do is put a connecting pipe between the two downpipes and place the lambda probe there otherwise the 3 cylinders you where measuring off could be running fine but the others crap giving you performance and reliability problems. you would probably get other problems with the fact that the probe is measuring o2 content for just 3 cylinders rather than 6. hope thats some help but how you would work the offside exhaust around the fuel tank should be interesting assuming you where gonna an exit on each side

the idea i had was seperate pipes from the headers to the back of the car.

was also thinking that if you have two pipes going back with only 3 cylinders running on each would that not mean that you could use smaller diameter pipes and thus fit two over the beam.

It has come from a thought i had when i was half asleep half awake just lying there trying to get back to sleep. Looking into it more and more its seems like a pointless idea, but its an idea that has now been talked about
