Ciaran 4
Well i can now answer my own question GERMAN PLATES ARE ILLEGAL because i got stopped today. They were pretty fair with me because i pleaded ignorance and said i was not aware they were illegal and that i was very sorry. Think they may have been sympathetic towards me seeing as i had just been at a funeral and was still wearing a white shirt and black tie. I said i was realy sorry at which point he said "have u been drinking son" i said yes and he said "do u mind giving a breath sample" i said no bother and blew a reading of zero after a pint and a half I was then sent on my way and told to change them which i will do 2moro as i avoided a fine this time and can't be bothered with the hassle. chrispvr6 0
These kind of plates are illegal. Two points to bear in mind. the police ANPR system is there for everyones good, so a) if you are run over by a stolen car,as i was 2 years ago, or perhaps closer to the heart of a lot of us, if your pride and joy is stolen, the ANPR wont be able to read anything other than legal style plates. so lets modify our cars in lots of other ways but keep plates legal, it might be to our benefit!! thegoth 5
I'm in two minds about APNR. Sure I appreciate it's use in getting uninsured and/or unroad worthy cars off the road and in fact would like to see more checks. But strongly disagree with the fact that the scans are kept on record indefiantly even if the computer says my car is 100% legitimate. Seademon 0
Ive had my German plates on since 2005 and have only been pulled once & that was about a week after fitting them - I think I'm gonna change them now tho :0)
VR6Pete 1,455
Yep, I've just been out and bought 2 sets of plates for my new golf, some german ones and normal GB ones
jesterwalker69 0
I got pulled the other night for a bit of cheeky undertaking as i was stuck behind a painfully slow, silver top driven, Micra! I said I had decided to go one way then changed my mind as traffic wasn't too bad so pulled back in again!ANYWAY, the officer had a look about the car, started chatting to me then, to my surprise, started taking a real genuine interest in the car!! Asking about the interior and engine spec, the vento front etc. Couldn't have asked for a nicer copper to have been pulled over by! He went to the front of the car, (i was getting a bit nervous then!) looked at the German plate and, to add further to my surprise, came out with "They do suit those German style plates a lot better then our UK ones!"!!!Had a bit more of a crack with him then he let me go and even warned me about the abundance of police about that night!
