manzi 0
I've posted this on behalf of j.carr82."HELP, Ive recently bought a late 1997 vr6. when im at a stand still and rev the engine to 1400 - 1700rpm and hold it there i get a vibration through the car. At first a thorght its was a misfire but ive had the car to my local vw garage who kindly tested the engine for free and the report had no faults at all. They told me to try running injector cleaner additive for a few weeks and replace spark plugs to see if it made any difference. There best guess was maybe vibration on the flywheel or mountings. Anyone had similar problems?? Ive herd the metal casings around the spark plug leads can cause the spark to 'arc' its only 50,000 miles and is an original example"
6cylinder 0
The garage isnt going to find a fault if it is intermittant,i would be inclined to get new leads and plugs in it. 8-|
4mobora 0
is it definatly coming from the engine because on my 4mo i get to a certain low rev speed and theres a loud vibration sounds like its coming from the front but its actually the rear tinfoil type heat shield over the back box due to 1 mount rusted away and lowering the shield
j.carr82 0
It feels like its at the front but i might be fooled, Thanks to MANZI for posting in the forum as i PM messaged everyone!! Great feed back over 40 people replied. Im replacing the plugs and leads this weekend unless i need to order leads, i reckon this will solve the problem, unless the coil pack is damaged which lots of people mentioned, also going to check the mountings and exhaust. i have noticed it backpopels quite a bit when i let off the revs. Hopefully its not the flywheel, the vibration doesn't change or get worse on releasing the clutch so don't think it is... H13VYY 0
Had to ressurect this old thread as im having this exact same problem. When i hold the revs at around 1500rpm, there is a constant vibration along with exhaust popping. The vibration/back popping disappear at 2000rpm onwards. It's just mainly at 1500rpm. I fully serviced my car in January along with news spark plugs. The new spark plugs which i had put in were mistakenly sprayed with WD-40 by my dad, but i dried them up with a cloth, but not sure whether that still could be the prbolem? I never really noticed this problem as iv hardly ever revved my engine on the spot so really don't know how long its been going on.Any help would be great. Thanks
CALICO 130
any wd40 on your plugs would have been burnt off a long time ago so i would say this is not the problem
manzi 0
phooo it was some time ago. think i had this prob but in my case it was the leads.numpty i took my garage to had just yanked on the leads instead of using tool. broke couple of the leads and i shockingly found them taped back together with electrical tape. H13VYY 0
anyone else got any ideas on what could cause the vibration?
j.carr82 0
Hi all... Unfortunately i sold my vr6 to help buy a house, miss it loads!!!!! But i never had the vibration cured.. New plugs, leads, had timing checked, belts, mounting all electrics and so on by vw and specialists but no cure.. The v dubs specialist did say it could be a worn crankshaft bearing which was £££'s to get checked/replaced so i left it, i couldn't fault the car otherwise.. good luck...
