lewisvr6 0 Posted November 8, 2007 Report Share Posted November 8, 2007 just drivin home a second ago and to my horror noticed the water gauge was on 100 n also noticed the car was makin a very strange whirring noise (like n fan noise but very very loud) pulled over n all of the coolant had gone! so obviously a severe split in a pipe somewhere. the oil temp was sittin at 92 so luckily i think i caught it early.. wud it have caused any damage to the head with the water at 100..? couldnt of been like it very long n once engine was off it dropped to 50 within 30 seconds. it wasnt idling wierd or nethin n the really loud fan noise cut out at about 70 degrees n u cud still hear the fan running. seriously worried atm!cheers Link to post Share on other sites
LadVR 0 Posted November 9, 2007 Report Share Posted November 9, 2007 The fans in my mk2 are always blowing the fuse when in traffic, and has caught me out and over heated a number of times. if you turned it off straight away you should be all right. the loud whirring noise might be a knackered water pump? mine howled for a few miles then seized solid. Did you fill it back up and where was it draining from????MAin water pump at bottom on Drivers side out of sight. Aux at rear on passanger side and fans at the front. lewisvr6 0 Posted November 9, 2007 Author Report Share Posted November 9, 2007 i filled it up n the the ONLY place i can see water coming out is through one of the joiners in the top rad pipe, its not comin out newher else.. it starts pissin out once the system is pressurised at normal operating temp.. has vr6 got a second fan that comes on, a bigger one cos thas exactly what it sounded like. not a mechanical whirring. n it went off when i stopped drivin n it cooled down.. n cud hear the other fan runnin..good thing this did happen cos when i lifted the bonnet i noticed the dreaded chain rattle!! very faint but def there. cudnt hear it thru the sound deadenin under the bonnet.. its goin in tomoro to get looked at. so much for gettin my supersprint system.. engine is more important!!!! bugger! amazak 3 Posted November 9, 2007 Report Share Posted November 9, 2007 This happened to me once with my mk2, then when I rang the mac he advised not to put the water in whilst the engine was hot as that could warp the head??? , and that I should wait for the engine to cool off before filling up? Also guy's what does this chain noise sound like, mine has a whiring noise, but I think it might be the tensioner bearing?? The harder I rev the louder the noise gets, does not sound like metal rubbing or tin sota noises?? Link to post Share on other sites
