RobinHood 0
I know this is going to piss even more people off than my last thread but what do you think? The Fourth Generation conversions are multi-point fully sequential systems that produce very little less power than the original. Whats more they don't effect the running on petrol so surely you have the best of both worlds. No one will say they spend all their time driving with their foot buried in the well, if the car is slightly less powerful on LPG then put your foot down further! The reason I am saying all this is that my girlfriend has recently gone to Uni in North London and I am driving up every weekend from Torquay. It is a great drive in the VR6 (3 hours last night) but is costing me £75 for the round trip. If I could bring that down to £45 it would be cheaper than the train and would mean the other option (suggested by girlfriend) of getting a Diesel could be disregarded!!What do you reckon??Regards, RobinOh, you don't have to pay the congestion charge either. jesterwalker69 0
Get an el' cheapo diesel to run about in and keep the beautiful VR as she was meant to be kept!
RobinHood 0
Get an el' cheapo diesel to run about in and keep the beautiful VR as she was meant to be kept! But you can't get from Torquay to North London in 3 hours in el' cheapo diesel! I bought the VR6 to save my TVR for best.
RobinHood 0
I think you can legally de-cat if on LPG as well.
vr6madmike 0
Lol you cant be that worried about fuel if you have a TVR as well, how much does the conversion cost?
RobinHood 0
Lol you cant be that worried about fuel if you have a TVR as well' date=' how much does the conversion cost? [/quote']When I bought the TVR I could walk to work and my girlfriend was with me and it's only a 4 iltre Chimaera. I only did 5000 miles last year including Le Mans so fuel was never an issue then. Now it's a different kettle of fish! I am driving 450 miles a week almost every week. Just to be conservative lets say 30 weeks at 450 = 13,500 plus general running around and driving to work gives a total of 15,000 a year. The Golf does 25 mpg average on a tankfull. 15,000/25=600gallons x 4.54= 2,724 Litres a year which pretty much comes to £2,724 a year.LPG is not quite as efficient so lets say 22 mpg. 15,000/22=681 gallons x 4.54 = 3,095 at 49.9 pence per litre comes to £1544. That is a saving of £1,179 in the first year against a cost £1,500 inc VAT for the kit fitted with 24 month warranty. So by the 68th week I will be in profit and I will then fit NoS and make it a fully gas powered car!!!BTW all this is helping me decide as well, please use the Poll?
RobinHood 0
Just had another quote for £1300 inc VAT! How do you get the results of the pole (if anyone has voted)?
vr6newcomer 1
hey robin, not that much of a bad idea with the fuel prices.
FishWick 21
Cheapest option I can see is to replace your girlfriend with one more local to Torquay :-)I get slightly concerned about people with thirsty cars who sit down and calculate how much fuel they burn in a year. An obvious question then? Why by a car, sorry, 2 cars that burn a lot of fuel if fuel costs are a PRIMARY concern of yours? It's like buying a 10,000 watt stereo and then worrying about the electricity bill. Buy a 100W stereo.I appreciate circumstances change but if the change is going to cost you so much cash, the obvious and cheapest solution is to get rid of what is costing you the cash, surely? And on a different note, my own girlfriend would be quite upset if she knew I was plotting ways to save money when seeing her. Seeing her in the first place should be the over riding concern, not how much it's costing you ;-)
